It was cute and fun at first.. And maybe even realistic? Though the few books I read (american fleet boats, not u-boats) did not have to dive EVERY 5-10 MINUTES..
Its a little ridiculous.. I have the patch for lite A.I. but I don't think that does anything for the planes.. Its really ruining things as I either have to submerge during the day and even dive every so often at night. Whats the deal with this? THANKS |

Read some books by US skippers, they had to dive over in certain areas and even stay submerged due to the heavy presence of enemy aircraft.Later on, the Japanese deployed their radar equipped planes at night to catch subs on surface when they normally would feel "safe" TMO 2.0 with the "beta" patch is realistic when it comes to aircraft. For example, my current patrol is Feb 1944 in South China Sea, near Luzon. There are 3 airbases within 200 miles at all times, youre going to get air contacts, esp if youve been spotted or attacked anything.Or just going to get heavy patrols.Compare that with a patrol in mid pacific in the "Dunkers Derp" area same year and month, I encountered 4 planes the entire time, not many airbases etc. Sure it can get annoying, trust me but it is realistic, esp with RSRD. The lite AI patch only affects escorts I believe not aircraft. A tactic that works well for me is a pseudo yo-yo Dive at full speed(dont have to crash dive everytime) stay under roughly an hour and 15 minutes(gives planes chance to fly over, then fly back as they always do in the game) come to scope depth, use SD radar(T key to extend antenna) to check the area for a minute, the surface. Some advice, dont speed up to TC during dive or surface(above 60 feet) or itll cause the annoying dive plane bug, wherre they wont rig out. |

I know it can sometimes seem like there are a ridiculous amount of planes about. Even with RFB, I thought they were a bit much. There are a few things that can help alleviate the problem. None of which involve editing the files. First, consider the possible reasons for the air encounters:
Is there a Japanese Air Base nearby? Is it a routine patrol mission? Have you been reported by a radio picket? In RFB/RSRDC, the air bases are already denoted on the game map. I don't recall how it is in TMO. Therefore, it might help to find a map with JABs marked on it and then stay at least 200nm away from them, if possible. Routine patrols are, for the most part, unpredictable and represent the smaller unobtrusive precentage, as long as you are not spotted by the plane. The last one is a bit trickier, being spotted and reported by a sampan or fishing boat. Here's what I mean. Most of us are aware of the TC "lag cheat" which is virtually impossible to ignore. You know from the lag during TC that there is a potential target about. What most may not know is how little lag there is when the potential taget is nothing more than a sampan or fishing boat. Just earlier today, I was foraging about in the waters just south of the Bungo Strait. I was at high TC and stopped it so I could dive and take a listen with my sonar. I did not notice anything (lag) during TC that would've alerted me to an enemy presence and it was strictly fortuitous that I stopped where I did. I heard nothing on sonar so I surfaced. Before returning to TC, I decided to take a gander at the radar screen (something I don't normally do). What I found were 3 blips at the fringe of my radar capabilities. Too far to be called out (yet) by the radar PO. I headed in the direction of contact and came across a total of 6 large sampans that I promptly dispatched with my deck gun and 40mm. They most assuredly would've reported my position and the planes would've been on their way. Since I've been aware of these possibilities, the planes aren't so much of a bother anymore, since I know how to affect the frequency of their untimely presence. Of course, this is not a cure, just some advice that I hope you find helpful. A cure would be to remove planes altogether from SHIV. ![]()

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1209 ![]() I've used both versions of it, it was nice to not have to worry about airplanes, I mean this about boats anyway!! ![]() |

I almost want to install that mod.. not because the planes do damage, but because it eats up my time for playing.. over 70% of my patrol is diving because the TC stops to 8 (contact at XXXXX)
Also, sometimes I get mad and don't even dive, 9 times out of 10 the planes will just fly over me, the few times they do drop a bomb(s) they miss.. Are their friendly aircraft in this game? Do they ever help you? That would be one of the only reasons in my opinion that would make me keep them |
