Default Whelp.. My first captain/crew is dead

Piggybacking off my post about 1943 being a bad year, I was humming around AM13, had completed my patrol, was going to go into the mid atlantic away from iceland and england and maybe catch a convoy..

had a submarine full of torpedos, an experienced crew, and headed for the convoy routes. Yeah, we had to crash dive 3,4 times a day to avoid DC's from planes, but, its how it is now, right?

2 days of crash diving later, I get a report of a boat thats within 100km of me.. so.. I divert to go stalk. submerge and hum over there to see if I can hear her. never get wind of it after hanging around on her projected line for half a day, so, back on my southwesterly course.

surface the boat to get some battery charge. 5 min later radar detector is going off. crash dive. and switch course 90 degrees.

go to external camera to watch the show. oh, the b-24 really screwed up and bracketed me with her payload. I'll be safely below 30' by the time she makes another pass.

Wait.. whats that... 5 more B-24s? all on a bombing run final approach? whew, the first one missed.. the second one missed.. the third one missed.. the fourt.... (dead)

the u-802 sinks to the seafloor with 230,000 tons of shipping to her name. and my shiny golden knights cross with oak leaves, swords, and diamonds goes with it.

sigh.

start my new campaign in 1939. have already had 3 misfires of the magneto torpedos! awesome. at least I havent seen any airplanes.

My Magneto torpedoes really are awesome, I don't even have to aim them. They just pull the metal hulls of the targets right into them with their fantastical mutant powers.

Sorry about the U-802 though. RIP, Herr Kaleun.

That's a tough one. It really hurts to lose such an elite crew. I used to immediately begin again in 1939 but what I do now is begin a new career where the previous one was killed or retired by SH3 Commander. I am now in patrol 7 with over 200K, March 1944 and current patrol tonnage of about 30K. I'm going to stay out until fuel or torpedoes force me to come back in. Or some other unfortunate event. Should I survive this patrol I'll either be retired or forced to change base when the Allies storm ashore. I'm finding the nonstop air coverage and expertise of the escorts to be a real challenge, but I still bagged three ships from a convoy last night and slipped away to celebrate with my men.

Always a shame to lose a Kaleun. You will find it a lot easier in 1939, and as for magnetic torps - stick with impact pistols and you'll start racking up tonnage.
