Yeah I heard that the epicentre was only about 6kms away from Christchurch city centre. I've already seen some pictures on the news of damage. Brough back memories of the Newcastle quake years ago. Hope everyone and the sheep are ok.

Blimey I remember that one. I was 14 floors up in a building in North Sydney and felt the shaking and wondered WTF was going on.

If you feel just the shaking it's probably not that dangerous or immediately dangerous

however

If you feel the ground or floor literally moving rapidly in all direction horizontally you are most probably in immediate danger

If you feel the ground or floor literally moving in all direction INCLUDING vertically the building will most probably collapse.

Looking at the damage in NZ you can say they're blessed that nobody was killed. Good thing. To me Australians and New Zealanders are among the warmest people. Heck no wonder because they are listed as being among the happiest nations on the planet

I wonder if this is a precursor to Australia's planned invasion?

Naw it was probably just the HAARP Earthquake Gun missing Iran again...

More aftershocks today. One of 5.2 magnitude. Looks like they are having a rough time of it over the ditch.

Yes there's been a few aftershocks, the latest one i think is the 5.2 you mentioned that was only 6 miles down. One chap just finish building his brand new home got to live in it for 4 days before it fell to bits, house is now condemned. Plenty of stories like that one, then there's the water problem they had to ship drinking water from wellington by trucks and to finish it off they got looters!

A friend who's a builder by trade and out of work has loaded up his truck and headed off to Christchurch there be plenty of work for the next couple of years so tradesmen are needed. Total costs to rebuild the city is at 2 billion so far.

Christchurch was built on sand and is directly sitting on the EQ fault line.
