I'm getting a lot of CTDs on save game load up, at the 'not so long ago stage'
running fully patched SH3, GWX3.0, Commander (using config installer), plus radio messages lite, on Vista 32 bit system, this is a clean install. Any ideas, as this makes the game unplayable if you can't reload a save. |

How about an earlier save?

You may very well have a corrupted save. As Pisces noted, if you have another save made earlier you can try loading that and see what happens. You will lose everything that happened after that save point, but at least you'll be able to continue your mission/patrol without having to start over completely.
Unfortunately the occasional corrupted save seems to be a known issue with the game. Best advice for avoiding them: don't save submerged, or within contact range of land or any other vessel. This means that before you save, you should submerge (if you're on the surface) and do a hydrophone check to verify that there are no sound contacts within range. Resurface and verify from the bridge that you cannot see land, other ships, or aircraft in any direction; then ask your WO for the nearest visual contact to verify that the game agrees there is nobody else around. Also, modding should only be done (and this includes using JSGME to enable/disable "pre-assembled" mods) when you are in base between patrols. So if you've changed anything in your mod line-up, or edited any files manually, since exiting the game after that save, you can try to undo whatever changes you made and then reload to see if that solves the problem. If none of that applies, you may just have gotten the odd corrupted save for reasons unknown and the only option will be to start again from the last save point that will load for you without crashing. |

Thanks,
but thats probably me done with SH3 then, I can't play games that you put 10s or even 100s hours of time into and then saves regularly get corrupted, thats why I don't play blood bowl or CM99/00 (the best version of championship manager) anymore. Its just to depressing and makes me want to throw the PC out of the window. |

If it's happening on a regular basis with a particular install of the game, chances are there's a reason for it that can be pinned down and addressed in some way. Personally I've put in hours of game time over many careers and made many saves, sometimes a dozen or more in the same patrol, and I've never had an issue loading a save that wasn't attributable to something I did to bork things up in between gaming sessions. ![]() |

Noooo, don't give up! Yes, it's not nice to lose a career in this way but it is only occasionally. I'm suffering at the minute and can't fathom out why but intend to restart a fresh career that will be better for my experience - I'll still not sink anything but hey, don't let the gremlins grind you down
