Default non changing weather

I've noticed every campaign i've ever been in the weather seems to be the exact same as it was in the base i left.

Is there a weather mod to help the weather change more frequent. Frustrating starting in completely calm seas in Java and 3 weeks later, every day is completely calm seas.

From doing a search, seems like some people have the same problem but some don't. Seems worse than SH3 to me, meaning it never changes. It's always the base weather the whole way through the patrol.

I have had one patrol where the weather remained stormy for an extended period- at least a two week period while I was on station South of the Japanese Island of Honshu. The weather and wind direction remained constant for the two week period- It was one of my most successful patrols thanks to my being equipped with radar; but I was beginning to think that the unchanging weather was a bug.

The weather DID clear though. On my return voyage to base.

I have not encountered the problem of unchanging weather at all as you describe it. Using 1.5 w/ TMO 1.9.

Same here except I went from S. Austrailia to N. Japan. The whole way there was nothing but fog and rain. I missed ALOT of good targets, because in order to get them in my sights, I need to get so close that my torps are useless...

I'm running RFB and a pile of additional mods. Seems to me that the very first patrol of a campaign has clear skies, excellent visibility and zero wind for the entire patrol, however long it lasts. At least it did...

I just started a campaign, got sunk a few days later, and instead of starting a new campaign I reused the same Autosave on Leaving Base. Lo and behold, wonder of wonders, my weather changes now.

So I'm thinking if you have this same issue with the weather on the first patrol, just reloading that autosave may be a cheap and effective fix.

Don't forget that you may just happened to run into a solid month of good weather, which, as I understand it, is not uncommon in the pacific.

Hey Sailor Steve, you're the one to know such a thing. Is that correct?

I'm not Sailor Steve but he and I were both on a DD Gearing class ( Mine is my sig. ). I was stationed mostly off Key West in the 50's on the USS Sarsfield EDD 837 and 50 to 100 miles off Fla. some times it would rain for a week straight then wham three weeks burning sunshine. I've heard from some of the ole salts aboard that they have seen longer periods of rough and nice weather when they were on patrols on the Sarsfield 3/4 years before near Japan about 1949/50.

So yes expect what you play as the Dev's pretty well hit the weather about right.

I seem to be experienceing this on my first campaign of a fresh SH4 Gold install on my new PC Reading this thread made me realise, that 3weeks after leaving Midway, the weather reports are the same: Clear skies, no rain, excellent visibility, wind speed 5 met. per second, direction 0. Useing all the same mods as before, and always had different weather. I hope something isn't amiss.

I wonder if it's something with a first patrol in a campaign. I haven't had a second patrol yet as I keep restarting a new campaign due to crashed saved games.

Right now i'm still on my first patrol in a campaign and weather hasn't changed. The other 2 campaigns i played, again weather never changed from pearl to japan and the other one midway to japan.

I'll try the ctr-n thing if it doesn't change in a few days play time. I'm going to be real bummed if it happens in the second patrol.

No probs. on this end with saved games. My mods are the same as before: RFB plus patch, RSRD plus patch, Keldunk's tweaks, ship lengths added to the ID manual. Always had changeing weather, even on first patrol.

Are you fully patched up?
If you are and the problem is still occuring then maybe consider running one of the major environment mods (RE or PE, find in downloads section).

I can tell you I've never had this problem in either TMO or RFB. They each come with their own environment that does not have this problem.
So maybe if you feel ready it's time to check out one of the Supermods.

The problem is also often caused by time compression values over 1024, so avoid them.

i'm running FOTRS with 1.5 so it shouldn't be a patch issue. I think FOTRS has it's own environment mod.

I do use time compression above 1024. I'll give that a try on my current patrol and see what it does.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not so sure that time compression is the problem. I often TC over 1024, starting out in bright, sunny, weather and then find myself in the middle of a torrential downpour when I return to normal time. This has happened to me in Stock, RFB, RSRDC and TMOwtw.

Never had a problem, run high TC all the time and never heard that causing such.
