Default What would you do...?

Ok stumbled across this in the Makassar Strait whilst looking for the Java Sea invasion force.

Some are milling around, others stationery. All merchants no escorts as yet. That said, previously I did have a sighting off some 10+ destroyers and other warships in the area...My sonar man has lost these now so may be still around

I am undecided as to what to do....do I attack now. I assume they are getting into position, will more arrive?

I am in 56ft water....as far as the eye can see...so would be buggered if any escorts did show up....what would you do?

is the sea calm?

if it is, id try and break their keel with 1 well placed torpedo on each ship that is stationary.
when all available torpedoes are exhausted, id haul ass outa there to deeper water

my 0.2 cents anyways.

Yep...flat as a mill pond and bright as hell too .

You say "break their keel"....is that still doable in TMO + RSRD thought they fixed it so that ships didnt break up?

That is my other concern...in such shallow water im worried they wont actually "sink"

If you know what direction the escorts would come from then I would position one under the stack and one in good spot for that ship. Then move out to 3000 yrds or more and deck gun any ship that you torpedoed but did not sink plus any other ship you can get unitl your reload is done, the attack again with torpedoes.

Do this until out of ammo. If the escorts show up run away on the surface in the opposite direction. If planes show up you will probably need to run away on the surface and fight them until you have at least 100 feet of water so you can get to at least 80 feet.

No escorts, I would plow in at scope depth and let them have it and get out before any escorts show up.

Are they sitting near Balikpapan? If so, probably the invasion force for that area. Be careful, there is a TF of about 10 escorts about in Feb and March near there.

The Java force will come from the shipping lane near Jolo, through the Celebes to Java.

I'd sink as many as I could (picking the juicy ones like tankers) then get the heck out of Dodge.

Default The Aftermath

Ok....thanks for all the advice....decided to wait till dark and headed in.....spent most of the evening jostling and getting into posistion whilst fire off here and there. Mopped three up with the deckgun. Took some damage and lost a good man but think it was worth it in the end.

Back to base, all fuelled and rearmed and its only the 26th Jan...off to find the rest of the Java fleet

Note...In "rea" life would they have just continued to mill around as they did here, whilst all around ships were sinking....wouldnt they have made a run for it. They were just there for the taking ??

No, they would take off, but take it. I just find it strange such a large group with no escorts, never seen that.

Arrrgh matey!

Good call waiting for night. I think they may have all been drinking too much rum to not flee after the first few ships blew up and sank!
