Default [TEC] How to save Campaign_NMS.mis

Hi Guys

I'm trying to expand the number of Islands and Straits that are named on the map.

I know how to make the graphics and have done that (fx. for Okinawa).

I know how to open up Campaign_NMS.mis with the Mission Editor and enable Map Location Edit Mode.

I know how to Add New Map Location and what the settings should be in that locations options box.

Then the problems start to arrise.....

1) I can not make it nameless in the field "Name in Editor" as all the other locations are.

2) When i save the file Campaign_NMS.mis again (Save MapNotes Layer) it ends up being 1KB in size and contain only one empty location.

What the xxxx is going on and can anyone help me with how to get the damn file saved so it keeps the info in it?

1. The original file was probably hand edited rather than made with the Mission Editor. But the Mission Editor can not make an entry with a name that is already used, which is blank. The Name in Editor is just that, it only shows in the editor not in the game. The name that shows in the game is the "Location Name in Game" or the .dds file.
The larger names are .dds files with an alpha channel, and in that case you would leave the "Location name in game" empty, since it is actually using a name created as a Graphic file. If you are not using an Image of the name then you type the Text that will show on the map in the "Location name in game." So the name in editor only shows in the editor, the name in game shows in the game. (and of course you can change the text style etc)

2. It is NOT a Mapnotes layer. As you stated you are creating "Locations" not Mapnotes.
I have not actually tried it with a NMS file, but you should be able to go to the Menu/Mission/Parameters and check the box that says "Ignore Player Submarines" (It won't save without a sub unless this is checked) and then save as a Normal Mission.

And I think in SH4 you can actually save anything as a "Normal Mission". It will create a TSR file along with the .mis file and you should delete the TSR at least in this case. It won't hurt anything but it serves no purpose here.

A normal mission saves EVERYTHING, so make sure you don't have anything in there that you don't want.

I had a similar issue when I was making up a location set for the Baltic.

Peabody's more than likely right that the file is hand edited, but there is a way round it.

What I did was:

Open Campaign_NMS.mis by using the "Open Scripted Layer" in the "File" drop down menu. As you've found, don't use the Map Notes option as it seems to wipe it.

As it doesn't let you not put an entry in, just start it as "01" or something to bypass that bit. Also, make sure that the "Location Name in Game" is empty if your putting in an image, as opposed to a Location.

Once you've done that, use the "Save Scripted Layer As" option and that should be it!

Hope that helps,

Mike.

Aye - figured it out. And you only have to MAKE the new location with the name, you can delete it fine afterwards - no complaints from the editor then...

I have started with Jace's file that is in RFB 2.0/RSRDC and i am working my way along the route taken by USS Tang by use of its patrol reports. Entering islands, straits, danger-zones etc. as I move along.

Thanks for the help Peabody.
