Help - new at SH5

I´m new to SH5 (only played for about a week) and I need some info.

1. Can I find a updated keyboard layout somewhere - only got the one from the manual on disk.

2. And is the no "search pattern" to plot - when you come to the patrol zone.

3. Sometimes I can¨t go "rig for silent running" why could that be?

Press F1 while playing to bring up the Keyboard screen.

2. And is the no "search pattern" to plot - when you come to the patrol zone.

Sorry I'm not really sure what your trying to say, but.....
Stock SH5 does not have search patterns, you have to manualy set a search pattern.

3. Sometimes I can"t go "rig for silent running" why could that be?

You must have you engines on the lowest speed to be able to rig for silent running. maybe your going too fast?
Could also be linked to the morale bug..... hoping the next patch will fix.
. Theres a mod (check download section of this site ---> LINK ) to work around the morale problems until the patch is released.

Oh and welcome aboard

Excellent answer jwilliams

I will add (in blue):

1. Can I find a updated keyboard layout somewhere - only got the one from the manual on disk.

Search pattern are still in the code, but if reactivated they would work once but produce a CTD the second time. (hope this will be fixed)

Also be sure to be underwater, as Silent running is not possible when surfaced.

Adding link to keyboard layouts already posted on subsim (in red):

1. Can I find a updated keyboard layout somewhere - only got the one from the manual on disk.

Press F1 while playing to bring up the Keyboard screen.

'shift' keyboard here

2. And is the no "search pattern" to plot - when you come to the patrol zone.

I dont think thats a requirement as Rig for silent running needs you to be submerged.. you can go from 11 kt to 2.5-3 kt by talking to the pirate

Default Yet another noob question.....

Just wondering what the ideal place on a ship is to aim a torpedo in regards to depth? as low as possible or near to the waterline? Thanks.

The ideal place to aim a torpedo is at the center and just below (about 1 meter below) the keel (the bottom of the ship) with magnetic detonators on. This means the torpedo will detect the ship as it passes below it. Torpedo explodes and This lifts the ship out of the water and breaks its spine. causing the ship to break into two. (thats the plan anyway)

Unfortuently the magnetic detornators arn't working properly in the game ATM. hopefully the 1.2 patch will fix this.

Yes i think you are right,

As in if you ask to rig of silent running the speed is auto set to slow. But you also need to be submerged

and if you are submerged and still have the problem of not being able to rig for silent then its prob the morale bug.

Oh, can I ask a question to?

Ive already decided to get this game when the 2nd patch is relesed and get some mods. Then I will embark on my first patroll!
This video made me decide to buy this game, looks so awesome!

Questions:

1. How is the music in the game? Is it like the music from SH4?

2. How is the multiplayer mode? Sub vs sub only?

3. How long is the whole campain? 15+ hours?

4. How is the story in the campain? Standard military story or something great?

5. How is the English voices? Or should I stick to German?

6. (Not really realated to the game) Ive always wondered, how do submarines charge their batteries? Generators underwater?

They have to be surfaced. The diesel engines drive the generators that charge the batteries.
