wow.

stressful situation with a lot of potential to go worse than it did.

Glad they were both US Flagged vessels though... international incident anyone?

There was nothing anyone could have done. The tugs diesels cut out and they didn't get them restarted in time. As a result the tug got caught on the starboard horizontal stabilizer and it tore a hole in the bottom of it. Like GR said it could have gone worse, only two drowned as a result. If I remember correctly I first learned of this incident in Sub School in Groton.
