Default Observation Periscope

Ok, am I missing something very fundamental here or is there something a miss with my game.

I can see nothing through it....its just black, its raised and it "clicks" as it should when turning but cant see bugger all. And yes it is daytime

Have stock game + Uboat download and the following mods

-Websters Game Fixes Only Mod
-Webster's New Orders Bar Menu for v1.5
-Real Environments #1
-GFO Patch for Real Environments #1

Scrub all that, Im being a dumb arse again....

Any suggestions ?

What kind of boat are you in? Is it possible it is a boat with only one periscope (not sure if the S boats had two??)

No offense here, but could you be raising the attack periscope while looking through the observation periscope?

I would be lying if I did not admit doing that more than once.

Yes, try raising both scopes, and switching back and forth. Also check your external view, or on the bridge to see if they are both extended.

And how many of us have raised the observation periscope and forgotten to lower it?

(raises hand)

I double checked to see that the Attack Periscope was lowered, but then wondered how come those escorts kept spotting me.

sigh. normally as a result of saving whilst at periscope depth...

once I only realised I'd left the atack scope up, when I raised the Obs scope and found there was a PERISCOPE obscuring my view...

it would be nice maybe if they would retract automatically when you left the station.

Not me! After I have a quick look see, I immediately lower it, whether it's the attack or observation scope. That comes from playing SH2/DC I guess.
I start lowering it while I'm at the 'scope station.

And in 3D periscope view...

A while back I waited for over an hour under the TL, in rough seas, at 180, between columns, to get inside the escort ring of a TF. As the forward escorts passed over I swung the boat to 90 while rising to PD. I was planning sonar shots. But, I wanted to be able to adjust after the first salvo. I'd opened the doors when I passed 150' and checked my solution. I just KNEW I was going to gather up some impressive tonnage. I was east of Saipan with a lot of water under me. As I got to PD to wait for my solution to come to bear, I started hear some odd noises. A lot of them! The nice, uniform, star-burst of sonar contacts on my attack map started going all Keystone Kops on me. I better take a look! I switch to the Periscope screen... THE OB SCOPE IS UP!!! I take a peek and see that I have a Fuso both fore and aft of me. I'm taking 14" and 6" fire all over the place!!! I have DDs coming in at me from 80, 90 & 100degs!

My Mountain Dew had been jarred off the desk into the trashcan. The dog has run in and found that my small stack of cookies is now within his domain, on the floor, and free for the taking. I hear a snort and turn in time to hear the wife mumble, "jack*ss", as she walks by...

I now make sure scopes and AS are down when I am...
