This is garbage

I'm starting to get really pissed off on this game. On the six latest saves at sea, only two have worked. I've been working my ass off in hours for nothing. How the hell am I supposed to do to make it work?
  • Always on surface. I even tend to watch out so I don't save while in a wave.
  • No ship in the vicinity (sinking or floating), as what I can see that is. I haven't been doing hydrophone checks for every save. Is it necessary?
  • No way near land.
Are anyone aware of why this bug shows up, or are they only our best guesses?

Maybe I could save more often and try to load it each thirty minutes. But the game takes a awful lot of time to crank up, as it is.

People are more than welcome to give their thoughts on why this happens in this thread. So that I can figure out a way to play this game and maybe find a solution.

Runing a hydrophone check dosen't hurt. I don't know why you are having such trubble with the save system of the game. I myself have only ever run into one incident of the game not saving properly.

I cant say i have ever come across any issues with savegames myself but have heard many similar stories to your own, i frequently save submerged/near convoys/sinking ships and have never experienced any problems. I never usually save more than 2-3 times over a whole patrol though, i guess if youre saving often youre multiplying the chance of getting a corrupted save.

This must be down to some file corruption somewhere, try a full reinstall of the game and see if that helps would be my only advice + make sure you dont have any special characters in your savegame name that may be giving windows problems.

That is odd.

Is this something new that has just started with your current career?
Have you tried running a registry cleaner and defragged your computer?
Any other programs running in the background while playing the game?

Sorry, can't be much more help than that.

i know this may be obvious, but did you change anything in your mods folder, data, or commander files?

What are your system specs? What mods are you using? It could be a memory issue. Very likeley your running out of memory when trying to load the save game since there is now so much more data to load.

I dont have the save game eroor ever, even saving underwater is no problem, so I think these types of issues are specific to either hardware, or your game installation, rather than a bug in SH3

Default losing the "save"

If I need to save a game during a patrol...I save it twice. Just in case. Now...if you make any changes to some mods (via JGSME), it can and will corrupt a saved file. There are exceptions to that rule. Certain mods do not influence saved games as other definitely will. I have found from experience that swapping Environment mods usually does not corrupt a saved file nor does swapping sub skins. However, any updating or changes to a "super" mod such as GWX, OLC, Magui, and/or the FM mod during a saved patrol/mission is asking for disaster. If I have to make serious changes or upgrade a mod, I do it in port between saved games. Or...if I make changes during a saved patrol to test something or check out a new mod, I revert back to the original setup before loading the saved game. Then make permanent changes once I return to port.

Try the "save twice"....I remember reading here awhile back that it cuts down chances of error upon reloading the game. Make sure that any changes on mods are done between patrols.

Thanks for the answers... So I can rule out that this is a bug. Good...

I'll start from there and check my computer.
