I wouldn't want to be at the receiving end of this . . .technique.

On the more serious note it was really sloppy for that ship to trespass the no shipping zone
Now those fishes' home are going to be ruined

"Damn it men get sloppy and we are paying the price..again...where to now?" "Kids bring as little as you need we have a long way to go"
"Dad You think they'll give us asylum on the east coast?"
"No Dad I prefer the west coast, California is cool, I've always wanted to be a hollywood star"
"If you were a hollywood star kid you would live in 6x2x3 glass box"
"Besides they have animation now so I heard"
"Willy was an exception of course lucky sucker"
"I heard Bush was a real fish friend"
"They have a different one now"
"Does he like fish too?"
"Maybe... on his plate"

ps. (no pun intended) God bless you Mr Bush. Have a good retirement.

Well outside the shipping channel, and is believed to have been attempting a short cut! Once it has been refloated (at the owners cost) clean the ship up and sink it well off the coast! That will hurt them more than the fine!
Thats one costly shortcut.......

Relieve it of its cargo first before you sink it.

That way the environment and the economy both benefit.

Better to sink it, the coal will never be burnt, and the government can claim the carbon offset!

This was a well known "shortcut" than many ships use to save fuel. Well off the authorized shipping lane - the accident happened at full speed since they didn't want to be caught in a non-shipping area.

I still like the idea of mandating local pilots out to a certain distance.... would solve this issue.

Couldn't the area be policed/patrolled for such happenings?
