3D Sound Channels

Hi all!
Could you please explain the game option "3D Sound Channels".
It has four positions. Is it for the number of loud-speakers or for the number of sounds that I could hear simultaneous?

If a merchant is burning in front of you(or any sound) and you move your camera it will change the speakers playing it.

It basicly means how many ways the sounds are divided up, and on those sound systems with 3D speakers these sounds will be spread out accordingly.
So if you dont have this type of sound system and surround spearker system(in other words, you have a simple two speaker stereo setup) you would be better off with the lesser settings.
However if you do have a surround setup with say five speakers, and a woofer then set it all the way to the right for maxmium effect.

don't forget setting the realistic sound travel time! Cool to watch a distant explosion and then hear the faint, "thunder" a bit later!
