Default The Pacific-Episode 2

Just wondering who here watched The Pacific-Episode Two tonight, well last night? What do you think of the series so far? Pros? Cons?

I really like the show, has exceeded my expectations.Although I loved Band of Brothers I figured it would basically be that but it's not, which is good because the PTO was a whole different war.The battle scenes in episode two were something intense, the hand to hand combat was well done and realistic. The banter between the Marines is also quite amusing.

I onyl have two things that are suspect to me....

Sgt Basilone during battle held his 50 cal machine gun kind of "rambo style", did this really happy or just theatrics? I know he won the MOH for taking out a bunch of Japanese troops and all but the way he was holding it for a second was a little ramboish.

The Marines stole some Army supplies during an air raid once the Army arrived on Guadalcanal, just wonder if this really happened.

So far I give the show an A+ though

I haven't seen this episode yet, but on the historicity of this - I've read about this one in a couple of sources now. That really is what happened, apparently.

Haven't watched the episode yet (it will air in an hour ), but one old John Wayne movie shows thefts between marines and air core. IIRC it was 'Flying Leathernecks'.

There ought to be some truth in that.

After watching episode 2, I have to say that I am a tad bit disappointed. I expected better explanation of what was going on there. Battles, dates, facts etc.

The Battle of Savo island, they are mentioning in Ep. no.2, was a disastrous defeat of US fleet. But IJN had missed their primary target - cargo ships which enabled US to dig in and make a stand. Thus the claim that they have sunk them isn't accurate as they say in the beggining of the episode.

Somehow everything happens too fast. At one moment it is over a month after landing, and the next there is a big battle. No shots of the airfield what so ever which was the key point of the island. The next thig you know they have won the battle and are going home. The battle for Guadalcanal lasted 6 months IIRC.

Still, I liked the show and will continue to enjoy it very much.

Yes, he hand-held the .30 cal MG (it was not a .50, they showed a water-cooled .30 cal).

I was happy to see the Marines with Springfields and Riesings, too.

_Loving_ it so far. Just can't stand waiting...

The timing of this show coincides perfectly with my first SH4 career
