Default [REQ] Map Locations and Positions

Hi there..

Mind you I do not own SH5, nor do I have a lot of clue how the map works. But from what I hear, it is not easy to get your in game position (either latitude and longitude or preferably KM Grid) straight from the map or while playing.

Now, my question.. is it possible, and would someone be willing to make a mod or script that can give the player the position in game?
We, over at the Subsim Enigma Flotilla, are discussing means to integrate support for SH5 into our little project. But unfortunately, without proper and (for the player) easy ways to get their location it is a rather mood point at the moment.

Thanks in advance..

Friendly bump..

I'd appreciate it if at least someone could let me know if it is even feasible or possible to do what I am asking for.

Depends on how precise you need your location to be.
Give me 10 minutes, I'll get back to you

No KM grid in the game yet. I'm hoping someone can mod it in.

A look below and you can see it is easy to narrow down your location to within 1 degree at a glance.

Furthermore, the fact that each degree of latitude or longitude is 120km, should make it easy to refine your position to within 1/10th of a degree.
I have checked and one degree of longitude remains 120km wherever you are on the map. It is a flat world.

I'm sure you could convert that to minutes if you wanted. Not sure of the maths but I know it is a straightforward conversion.

Just checked in game. I thought that maybe when you sent a patrol report it would have your position on it. I sent the report but could not find a log of it anywhere!

If you are looking for a script that gives a much more precise location, that is beyond my capability, sorry. Maybe someone else can help.
Hope this helps.

Sergei,

Thank you very much for the response, and your efforts!

I certainly hope that it will be possible to mod a KM grid or maybe the devs show some mercy and patch it in.

However, to give some general idea what we are doing and what we need it for:

http://operationspinnennetz.isaf.us/mapstatus.htm

Basically, our skippers report their status, position and so on as an encoded message to a receiving station, and said station uses a special version (props to Canovaro for his support) of the OS (Operation Spinnennetz) client to forward the status of the boat to the map, where it will be shown.

A relative precise and easy to get position fix would be preferable to include SH5 into the Flotilla.

Regardless, thank you very much, once again!
