Default REQ: AI mod without unrealistic enemy sensors

I'm not sure whether its possible with the SH5 AI scripting, but as an end-user i would prefer improved/harder AI that is based on realism, not just based on tweaking enemy sensors to unrealistic levels as was the case in some SH4 mods.

I do understand sometimes there is no other way to make it harder except for sort of giving the AI a cheat as was probably the case with SH4, but im really hoping we can get a proper AI which is harder but at the same time not uber-hard where planes are spotting your sub at 40 or 50 meteres submerged.

Thats just not realistic and more or less makes the whole idea of WW2 sub warfare redundant.

turn off map updates and use the stadimiter.. NOW theres a CHALLENGE

iget teh feeling most here are using automap updates.. this really makes the game soooo easy, what we really need is a mod that removes the ability the map updates gives you to see a ships exact position and the ships LOS, it would be nice to have small errors on the map, and remove the all knowing god sense

You're right there. I have to admit i play with map contacts :-)

But yes without map contacts finding the enemy is tough as hell and probably very realistic and the reason real u-boats werent sinking 100 k per month as depicted in Sh5 campaign.

I think your idea about toning down the accuracy of the map contacts is a really good one, and I'd defintiely love to try such a mod. Or howabout if the map contacts only show up briefly unless they are in visual range. It seems that once the ship is in visual it should probbaly stay on the map as your crew can see it well enough.

Another option might be to make the distant contacts which appear because of alerts from friendlies, arrive in a radio type message which then puts the last known position and course of contact on your map, but it dissapears after a few minutes (mimicking the fog of war). This would make the player actually have to immediatley plot the contact and see if an interception is possible.

And turn off the exterior camera. No peeking!

Any word yet on the notepad in the sonar control being fixed yet.
Really need this to go back to playing with no contacts. Can live without the stadimeter just using rules to get distance.
