Default repairing destroyed equipment

Hi all

Possible im simply totally stupid or it dont work, at moment my diesel engines are both destroyed, so i talk with my chief engineer and told him to repair destroyed equipment, and also with max moral he told me that he cant do that, same if i use the anti moral mod or if i dont use it, again and again he simply tell me he cant do that, so is there some sort of magic i need to do before or do i need to get some sort of special overpowered screwdriver for him or is it simply bugged?

Is it possible that "destroyed" means just that? It's destroyed so they're unrepairable.

@blackspot

Normally destroyed means destroyed yes sure, but then tell me why the chief engineer have a skill called repair destroyed equipment, this sounds for me like a skill that uhm allow you to repair destroyed equipment.

So normally this skill should allow me to repair destroyed things in my uboat but it dont do that, also it dont allow me anythign else this skill simply dont do anything.

I think it's time to swim for the nearest port.

only your subsystems can be repaired. your hull will only repaired if you dock, not restock. the ability "repair subsystems" works. but it will cost 10 morale points by default and it results in an instant repair.

?

diesel engines are SUBsystems?
Not owning SHV, the Diesel are surely MAIN systems or something?

How the funk is a man able to fix something that is totally Forked, especially something as big and complex as a diesel?

a pipe, a tube, valves, sealings bearings... well okay... but a dead 1200hp diesel...

If you recall, in Das Boot they struggled to find a small coil of wire.

(I know Das Boot isn't real ... they're just glove puppets. Sorry kids)

i dont have the game so i cant give specifics but engines are a primary system and NOT a subsystem so they are most likely just not on the list of destroyed equipt that can be "undestroyed" by special abilities.

there is most likely a list in a file somewhere that tells the game what can be "undestroyed" by special abilities so if you find where that is then maybe you can add the engines to the list.

agree you cant repair the hull in real life you would need a proper drydock to fix a hull so you could dive

But if the guy has two destroyed diesel engines( I am in the same boat btw) you would think that the engineer would tear them both apart to get one working.... It is what I would do.

I asked this question too..... You will notice that even though he says that he cant do it; if you click on him again there will be an eta next to the request. This is usually around 5 days. I have never waited for the five days to be up so I can't answer your question but if you have lots of patience you could hang on and see what happens

Did you realize how big those things are? Those engines couldn't be disassembled at sea. Maybe you could fix the injection pump, a leaky fuel pipe or even change a broken valve spring, but everything else required the ship to be in drydock. I think that, as in most big naval engines, each of the six engine pots could be switched off individually so, if the problem was severe but limited, the engine could still be operated.

I cannot imagine what mishap could cause the destruction of one of those engines... a gripped piston, maybe. Or due to depth charge damage, the hull is bent enough that the shafts are affected too. It happened sometimes on ships struck by seafloor mines.

Any major repair was carried out in drydocks. The sub was gutted open and the engines lifted with a heavy crane. I think I have seen a photo somewhere on one the books on the argument I own.

Man, I hope you are a good swimmer

Macgyver could fix destroyed systems. All he would need is: A paper clip, ballpoint pen, rubber band, tweezers, nasal spray, and a turkey baster.
