You'll be just fine, considering that warships and fighters seem to have an "awareness zone" of just a few metres. Fighters buzz by without noticing you, you have virtually collide with a destroyer for her to engage you, and if the droppings do hit the fan, they mess it up with poor AI and weak weaponry.

My story:
I was lurking near a British harbour and a destroyer amazingly spotted me. I was in shallow waters, with more DD's a stone throw away, and I was certain I was done for. But no, they all jumped at me at the same time and nearly ran each others down, and then spent considerable time going back and forth, trying to get out of each others' ways, just like ships humping quays and shoreline around ports.

Only once did depth charges get dropped anywhere near me, and when one exploded only a metre away, it barely did no damage at all (hull was down to 59%, but that was from other depth charges, too, and seriously, everything should've been shot to **** -- come on, the only systems that took damage only lost a few percents of hit points, and were repaired nearly instantly!).

Combat AI is broken. Plain and simple. I sincerely hope it's fixed in a mod or patch soon.

--------------

As for the idea of letting the currents carry you through, the commentary on the Das Boot Collector's Edition says the captain knew it wasn't gonna work, and said it just to give his crew hope.

Can you tell me about Happy Times , I've just been told after the speech about the Fall of France that I have new orders and have now been moved to the 2nd flot based at Lorient. I picked a Happy Times mission and came out of the map and was back in the pen, the only thing , the pen I was in was at Wilhelmshaven.

So I sailed to Lorient but then I got there I could not Dock , the only option was to Refit. So I went back to
Wilhelmshaven Docked and clicked on the officer in the pen, I was back in the World Map and listening again to the speech about the Fall of France and how the coast of France was now the frontline for our Uboats. Again I picked the mission and came out , I was still in Wilhelmshaven.

Was that the same for you ? or was your move automatic when you came out of the World Map ?

Hmm is this the mission tasking? Sinking 2 Battleships?

Never heard of a sub in WWII that sank 2 Battleships in a patrol.
Does not sound much realistic.
Anyway we just can be glad the mision wasn't to invade and capture Egypt yourself alone with one U-boat

you also have to sink 2 carriers carriyng supplies to Malta, and 2 more battleships near Alexandra. in happy times you need too sink 2 more battleships wich escrts convoys, and one in total germany campaign. in Black may you just need to sink merchant ships.

Im not sure where to find them since I have been playing there is numerous bugs that need to be patched and finding ships can take hours and capital ships to find them you almost need a prayer to find them but all in all the game is really good it just needs to be patched but I agree with the members here ubisoft has a great track record for not giving out patches for there games

Are currents even modeled now?

I know they were not in previous versions.
