Default SH3 Commander error: Invalid argument to date encode

I am having the same issue as some others have had, including A6Intruder. I know this has been covered before, as I have performed the requisite forum search. In another thread, the remedy for the error was:

Some idea why?

I did that - went back into the career in SH3 and loaded it as far as the barracks, as was suggested in another thread. However, it did not fix the problem - I still get the dreaded error message. It worked fine for the first patrol I did in the career I created since installing GWX, and it works okay for careers created prior to the GWX install. But after the 2nd patrol in the GWX career, error city. Is there anything else that can be done to salvage this career? I'd hate to lose it.

Thanks.

Did you upgrade your U-boat before starting your first patrol? If so, there's the problem.

Only solution is to manually edit your save game files to add in both the unrecorded renown and unrecorded date information - doable, but a PITA, especially for those not familiar with the files.

Or study the "Known SH3 issues and workarounds" section of the GWX manual before starting a new career.

I believe I did. I'm doing the "Wolves at War" gameplay, and the boat has to be configured a certain way before taking it out to sea.

How does one do that? (ie: which files to edit, where do I get the unrecorded renown info and unrecorded date info?). I can edit the files alright - would I have to edit them again for each patrol, or would once fix it?

Thanks for your help.

To get around the problem, go on a shakedown patrol before you embark on a mission patrol. You can then fix your boat any way you want without incurring the dreaded "Invalid argument to date encode," and loosing your renown for any action.
