Default [FAUXPAS] Game pauses, when Internet Connection is lost!

I had to make this poor fact into a thread.

That means with other words, the same **** as with steam-games like COH, etc (in COH you can interrupt the connection, after starting the game).

These Games are not really mod-or playable. Think of all the people, who just have dial in, or pay-per-time connections. Everytime, you want to test a mod, you have to go online! No playing in the countryside, when visiting grandma and grandpa or at longer journeys in the train. No playing for all the people, who have no permanent Internet Connection.

AND

In case of server laggs, or breakdowns: PAUSED

Nice invention. Really nice invention, UBI. The helplessness of stopping dramatically decreasing income, will not be changed by these measures. Far from it!

UBI not seems to recognize, most of the people are bored of the decreasing quality of games, they produce. Beside the fact of extremly grotty support. The strategy of making fast money is the killer of their revenue. Not the software piracy. Remeber "ANNO"? The game crashed often and remained unplayable for month, due to a missing patch! Unbelievable.

They lost many honest customers through this kind of business strategy. And they even will lost more.

Do you have a reference to this opinion to back it up? These days there are MANY opinions stated as fact...

WE know for sure that without constant internet connection you cant play the game.
You cant start the game without being conected to internet and if at any point your internet fails or something happens to their servers your game pauses and resumes only if connection is resumed. If you quit it will be saved...
It especially annoying to me since my gaming pc is in naval academy dormitory where there is no internet and my computer cant recieve wireless. So what i am supposed to do to play the game ? Sadly only one thing, to install the old sh3gwxolcmfm ...
Im sorry I uninstalled the game when i heard of sh5...Truly sorry.

True, that you cant play the game unless you are online, but where does it say its not modable?

The problem is that if it autoupdates without asking (as other members of subsim said happens with other games) it will overwrite the moded files and the mod goes to the bin. Noone said if it will be so but noone denied it either so it is up to speculation for now.But it is better to prepare for worst and hope for the best.

I agree that its speculation how DRM affects the mods...we will have to wait and see and decide then. I would much rather remain neutral and wait for facts, than either prepare for the worst (how can we do that) or asume the best.

There was an auto-update with SH4, but only if you selected it, there is an option not to

This is how Steam works, and I assume the Ubi system will be similar. It doesn't necessarily have to be a problem... Mods usually need to be updated when a game is patched.

It does become a problem, however, if for some reason you wish to stick with an older version of the game. Take a game like Empire Total War, where a nasty bug was introduced in the latest (and final) patch which made the game very unenjoyable for a lot of people. But you cannot roll back to a previous patch version, since Steam won't let you.

But why should I have to be online to play a single player game offline!! Talk about controlling!! and opening my system to all sorts of spyware intrusions, can't see any sound reason why I should have to stay online for the entire game, it's quite scary!!

if the connection is lost, game will pause once but it will
resume even if it can't connect again.
