It can be made to work on windows 7. Just don't instal it in the defult locatin and run it in compatability mode for windows xp service pack three and it should work. If it dosen't try lowering your resolution on you desk top to 1024x768 or lower. If you don't like useing that desk top res, like me, you can run the game in a window and keep your desk top at any size you want. Just launch the game in the perscribed res and then go into the game's options and uncheck the run in full screen option.

Ahoy,

erm, I'm having trouble with windows 7.

I upgraded with from vista and the existing installation of SH3 with grey wolves doesn't work.

Apparently windows 7 does not work with the version of starforce which sh3 originally shipped with.

I don't want to divert this thread about sf issues, but I have tried the following:

uninstalled grey wolves and sh3.

removed sf (with the official tool from the starforce website).

reinstalled sh3.

tried patching it, but it won't patch - it says it doesn't recognise a campaign file or something.

Now I'm stuck.

I'm in the UK and I understand that new copies of sh3 come without sf - is it worth buying a new copy for a fiver to cut out this hassle?

Over the years I've spent hundreds if not thousands of hours in my sub, now it's all come to an end.

I'm not waving, but drowning.

Anyone know how best to proceed?

I had the same problem. Tried it several times according to the solution suggested by the community but it didn't workout. The problem seems to be that Windows 7 doesn't recognize Starforce no matter if you update the driver or not. I'm sry to say I had to download a nocd-crack.

EDITED by moderator: Please no such links here. PM the user and send him whatever info you want, but we want to keep subsim.com unlinked to cd-crack webs.

Thanks

No problems. I just put the SHIII dis in and it downloaded right to C:/Program files/Ubisoft/SHIII. I then loaded GWX3 and some mods with no problems at all.
