Default Demise of racesimcentral

As many of you racesimmers are aware, but many others here may not be RacesimcentralForum had a severe hardware problem that they may not recover from. This is a sad event for its many members and sim racing fans but is also a warning.

Like Subsim RSC was the repository of a decade of institutional wisdom of its community. I urge the users and keepers of Subsim to help us keep Subsim alive and healthy. Lets wish RSC the best of luck in its recovery efforts. There but for the grace of god. . .

Was not aware of them honestly. However I wish them well.

I would ask though - it seems the genre (serious racing simulation) on the PC is pretty dead - other that rFactor - which is online limited from what I can see. A pity - but does anyone expect serious racing sims to make a comeback? Everything that is out in the genre has gone fairly arcadish (aka - Grid, Dirt, Dirt2, etc.). Though the games are still fun, they lack the seriousness of the old Papyrus style. I won't even mention the "EA" versions of such.

Actually, PC sim racing is doing pretty well. Theres rFactor, GTR2, GTREvo, GT Legends and iRacing and sequels are due out. Its a sport of its own especially overseas.

IMHO the problem is more the lack of development in general for the PC as the market share for acrade consoles is so huge. I buought a PS 2 a few years ago to play Madden football with friends, but thats IMHO the best console title there is. I tried a bunch of others but the arcade factor is huge, apart from the graphics its like going back to a Pentium 2. When they drop the PS 3 down again I may pick one up for Madden10 or whatever but thats it.

But I miss they days when new PC simulators came out every couple of months.

Nah, sim racing is not in any worse state now than it was a few years ago, its just that there have been a lot of silly titles branded "the real driving simulator" and such lately, and mostly for the consoles. rFactor 2 is due in 2010 I believe, and iRacing is expanding. Simbin seem to have experience some lag, who knows what they are doing at the moment, but on the other hand another bunch of modders (Reiza Studios) have gone pro.

Haplo, what do you mean that rFactor is online limited? AI? That heavily depends on the mods, some have real crap AI while others do not.

Am I the only one who read this as 'Demise of Racism Central'?

I imagined some kind of self-aware hate group.

I used to be pretty active in the RaceSim community years ago back when Papy was producing the nascar series but lost interest in it.

The genere hasent been the same since Papy got bought out.

Never visited Racesim but I wish them well.

Papyrus was the best, I still run Grand Prix Legends today as do a whole lot of people. The quality was built into that title and it really showed. I got GPL at the same time I got 688i if you can belive that, and I actually still play that from time to time. Titles in those days were really ambitious and dare I say it, made with love.

The main idea with this thread was to say we have a fantastic resource here at Subsim that like RSC really cant be replaced.

Very sad to hear about the demise of RSC, I seem to remember they've been the victim of hackers on a number of occasions.
