Default Submerged Radar use?

I read in some article online that subcommanders during WW2 sometimes operated in a semi-submerged depth in order to be able to use the radar. I have discovered that submerging to about 12 meters/36 feets gives me the option to manually starting the radar (in calm water). But question being, what does the game simulates this to, does this mean AI will see my ship as submerged or surfaced? Perhaps should try to pass a destroyer in broad daylight in good conditions from 6000 yards, if they &&¤##¤)/& me up, then this should be a sign it aint that effective as I've hoped, same should go for air patrols..

Default radar depth

Hi cazorp the enemy will spot you because of your wake when you at or near the surface, also the jap planes will see you up to a depth of 130 feet.

It acutally does work some what, much better with TMO. Mostly depends on all the sensor info, but overall the game doe's see you as either submerged or surfaced.

I take it down to 42ft and DDs don't shoot their guns at me, which makes me believe thats "submerged" as far as the game engine is concerned.

Does your radar works smoothly from 42 ft? any limitations regarding range or reliability while operating radar from 42 ft?

In anything up to heavy seas. Haven't noticed any range issues, reliability is flawless in stock 1.4.

130 feet?! how is that possible, I rarely get attacked while cruising around in periscope depth with periscope up
