What settings determine how clear your view underwater is in the Scene.dat?
I am trying to adjust it so that i can see my sub in the external next unit view without having to zoom in everytime. I thought it was WaterOpacity in the EnvData section, but i have tried many different settings from 0-255 and have not noticed much difference. Is there more to it? I assume this is the proper forum section for modding questions, if i am wrong please let me know and i'll start asking these questions in the correct section. Thanks! |

in the scene.dat check sky/EnvData/Underwater/Fog
i've set it to ZMin=-0.01 ZMax=18.0 for example. |

Hiya!
Open up the Env/EnvColors_Pac.dat file and find every data class called "WaterLightColor" or "WaterDarkColor" in there - there're 42(?) of them altogether residing under the WeatherTypes->XXX->Color entries. Play around with the variables named "a" and see what happens if anything ![]() |

Thanks Everyone I will try your suggestions!
Webster, i'm using your smaller rain scene.dat because its the only time i have seen lightning actually work in SH4 and im trying to tweak it with the slight color changes found in the TMO 1.9 Scene Dat, but i wanted a little better view underwater. |

whenever you want to do this you may not even need the original modders help because by comparing the stock file to a file that has been modded you can see the settings that were changed and what they were changed to so even though you dont know why that setting was used you will know it is the setting you need to use. if it doesnt work then you DO need help from the modder to find out why his settings didnt work on your files which could be it needs other settings you didnt notice or other files modded as well to go with it. in the case of my clear water and rain mods they are just simple value settings that you can put into any mod file but that doesnt mean its not possible to get side effects in doing it but i doubt it in this case. |

I know what your saying. Since i started messing with SH4 i have been compairing tons of files to get the effects i want. I have been compairing your smaller rain Scene.dat against TMO 1.9s and editing almost everything except the fog because i think its too thick and might be blocking the view of the lightning. After each edit i reload your Raintest mission and make sure the lightning still works.
The current game i'm running started with a stock 1.5 install, then i added most of TMOs env, shader, sound, interior, misc and menu folders and then added the extra ships to the Sea and Roster folders, then i added some of the Aircraft from OM. I left out things like the Narwhal because i want to be able to choose fore or aft deckguns and some other things like that. My goal is to have a game that looks as good as TMO, yet still plays like the stock game. I have had a few setbacks where i have had to start over, but the current version is working really well and hopefully once i get a clear underwater view i can quit modding and actually play the game. I keep telling myself that the next game i buy i'm just going to play, but it never seems to work out that way once i see what can be done. ![]() My last modding project was a flightsim called Wings Over Europe that started out at about 2.5 gigs and now occupies about 30 gigs of hard drive space. ![]() EDIT: I was just thinking about some of my posts and they might seem kinda arrogant that i have only been on the SH4 scene a few months and i'm building my own version. I have to say that i could not have accomplished this without all the hard work of the modders whos work i'm using! What i am doing is easy compaired to their work, i just take what i like and mix it together. I am doing very little actual modding myself! Also i won't be releasing my version because to be honest at this point i'm not sure what i have changed and what i have not and exactly whos work i'm using. I'll be happy to share anything i've learned, but overall its not my work. Guys like Ducimus,Lurker,Webster and many others are the pioneers and deserve all the credit! not sure if you saw it but look at the light fog mod for real environments, it might give you some ideas for the fog
![]() as for Quote:
arrogance, as far as the way i define it, is all in the attitude expressed so mod away and we hope you share your work so others may enjoy your interpretations of the game because everyone has different likes and preferences to what they think is best. just remember when you are modding other peoples mods it is always best to show them respect and ask permission first even though you are free to do as you please anyway, in the process you may even get help from them to acomplish your goals. |
