OK, so for whatever reason when I last installed SH4, I somehow managed to save it under Computer/User/SaveGames..
Now I think that is why when I try to load up any patches (still running vanilla game T.T i can't do it anymore..) that it thinks the game is not installed. To even play the game I cannot just click on auto run, I must do a complicated series of searches to actually get the game running without the auto run window. Now my question is, if i uninstall SH4 again, and install.. how do I get it to install into its base directory (what in fact is the usual directory that patches seek out to install into?). Thanks for the help, Krauter.

How did you do that....lol, unless you set it to a different path it should install with the correct path. Not sure how it loaded under a different path as it should load properly on install. Obvious you can direct your patches to load to where you installed it and I guess that's the maddness you're doing
The start path is "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific" The target starting shortcut is "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\sh4.exe" The stock game will show the target reading gu.exe instead of sh4.exe, but it's better to use sh4. At your shortcut, you can right click, properties and see what you have and should be able to make the changes there. I would try it before I did another reinstall. |

The only problem is that when i re-installed the game, it did go into the Ubisoft files ( but when I checked again there not there -.-').. I can't even play the game now as when I use the auto run, it says it is still not installed, yet the instal button is un-clickable.
Also, when I tried loading a mod (1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/etc) it says there is no version.. So.. FFS.. what am I doing wrong.. Krauter

Before you go off cursing Ubi for it, check the disc condition. I had a couple of small scrapes in my disc that was causing the error. Check yours, especially if you bought it used.

Yes, clean it well. If you have another drive, try that one. Your drive should try to read it several times, before you get the error, so you should hear it working. Finally, if it can't read, you'll get this error. So it's a bad or dirty disc or the drive itself may be going bad.
Some say use mild tooth paste for small scratches, then window cleaner. Sometimes they get scracthed just taking them out, who knows, but they should send you a replacement. |

+1 Clean the disks very gently. I've just bought SH4 (vanilla) and have two workstation PCs with DVD-RAM drives that just won't read some brand new disks.
I generally put these disks into a PC with a much older DVD drive and copy the contents onto a hard drive. Either using a direct file by file copy (i.e. Select All, Copy and Paste), or using a CD/DVD image making utility (e.g. Alcohol 120%). Hope this helps; good luck. Mac |
