Default Hull Destroyed bug?

Happened to me twice. I am just now starting to play SH4, I preordered it, but the think was going to be very expensive to play on my old machine. I have the 1.4 update installed. I get messeges telling me that the hull has been destroyed, but the hull will only have a damage rating of 84 or so. Something similar happened to me with the engines, the hull was "destroyed" but the engines were repaired. They would not function even when they left the repair list. I had to drive the boat and destroy the "repaired" hull in order to reach 100 and actually sink. Also, on all my first war patrols in campaign, the reward letters say 2 war patrol instead of first. The letters look like they are in engrish

Hull damage can only be repaired at your home port, bulkheads can be repaired to stop flooding. With 84% damage diving deep is not an option.
You should be able to return to base with that kind of damage but don't dive even periscope depth may be too much.

Damaged engines or batteries can show as repaired but still will not drive the boat, all things that could be repaired were repaired but the engines or batteries are not operational. End of patrol!!!!! Often times the real problem is that the screws or drive shafts are destroyed.

Best advice is to avoid 80% hull damage.

hull damage starts at zero and goes up to 100%

if you had 84 damage then you are supposed to be almost dead and in danger of sinking

also in sh4 the damage meter only shows damage to the "inner" hull or pressure hull so you can have major damage and still see the meter at zero.

the game has many hard coded issues with the damage model and damage repair and one very big bug is when things are reported as repaired even when they are destroyed so expect to see strange damage results.

I can confirm that the damage system in ASH4 is flawed: My boat got damaged heavily and I went to a nearby harbour (not my home base) and repaired it there. Went on patrol again and saved a couple of minutes later and quit the game.

When reloading the game the old damaged items were suddenly all damaged again! What the...

Yup. Repairs are only made at home port. You can refuel and re-arm elsewhere, though.

sh3 has a 1.4b patch which is the last one made

for sh4 the last patch made was 1.4 but the UBM Ad-on brings the game version up to v1.5 was really a patch but in order to sell it they called it a u-boat missions ad-on. but it really has very little to do with u-boats and is just a game patch by a different name that you have to pay for.

all the mods now are made for v1.5 so you really "have to" have it if you want to use the available mods but there are still some mods out there for the v1.4 game, just not very many.

now the trick is finding the add-on only, all the versions I have found have them bundled. It would seem to necessary to update though, I just notice that my personnel screen had slots for both bow and stern deck guns, yet I did not have the ability to place men in those positions. I was however able to man the one bow gun I did have by manual control. This I noticed having surfaced after depleting my batteries and being ambushed by a destroyer and patrol boat. I did not have a chance, not with the reload times associated with a deck gun without a crew. Is there a nautical varient of the gremlin? I think it must be the mer-men they have been messing with my ship
