I think you need to restart the game.

Why do you want to use the windowed mode?

I don't know about his reasons, but I like to play in windowed mode so I don't have to alt+tab my way back to the desktop to check in on subsim during those lonesome patrols through the pacific!

And to not have parts of the desktop be total immersion killers I start IrfanView in fullscreen in the background showing a map with shipping routes which better represents the navigation map than the one given in TMO1.8 (well at least it seems to me like that). So I just move SH4 window to look at the map.

Also it comes in handy if you use other external tools with SH4.

OK, those are good reasons. I like the full screen, but I can see if you use other tools or use the internet it would be more convenient.

After checking "Windowed mode" in graphics settings, exit the game, make a shortcut for SH4.exe wherever you want, enter its properties and under "Shortcut" tab, select "Run: Minimized".

Only works for me this way. Windows 7 here.

I've tried everything mentioned here and I can't get windowed mode to work. Don't think I've ever gotten it to work now that I think of it.
