There's a post about watching out for land when in TC, I thought that was rather odd, How could one hit land with all the water around
![]() Cruising along in shallow water at 20 knots under a moonless night TC set at 16. Then the crashing and breaking and screaming starts. We have this broke that broke bodies strewn everywhere. What the heck hit us???? No reports of enemy ships, maybe a mine or enemy sub. Run to the bridge and behold a moving Island hit us. Seems when I plotted my search pattern I did not have the map zoomed in enough to see the friggin fly speck right in my path ![]() So my question is has anyone else hit a moving Island or Continent? or do I get the Homer "DOH" award?

You are not alone by any means. It took me two "moving islands" to learn.
![]() ![]() ![]() I would say that most skippers here have done it at least once. Magic

Island? What island? I thought that was a crumb on the chart from the muffin I was eating.
![]() Everyone has done it multiple times. The whole Southwest Pacific is like a minefield in that respect. |

![]() I think there going to want the money to replace the Spearfish ![]() I feel better knowing I'm not the only one trying to evade the dreaded Moving Islands ![]() One last thing. What Admiral sends a submarine to patrol an area with an average depth of 60 feet ![]() "I sure hope that's a flock of birds coming our way if not were ********* Sir." or "Quick hide behind that Island and we can jump that Task Force when they come around the bend."

... On second thought, maybe the Admiral wouldn't care much to be lectured about relative motion.... |
