Default Enemy Sensors?

Hi

I have just started playing GWX 3 with OLC Gold. Using these mods, what range can merchants and DE's spot my ship from? If I shadow a lone merchant in daytime I can see him over 9 or 10 KM, at what point will he see me? Or can he already see me? Also what about night time in clear conditions? Couldnt find any comprehensive threads on this subject. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Cheers

There are too many variables such as light, wave height, precipitation, fog, cross sectional angle, crew rating etc. etc. to give you an accurate response, but there are threads available giving individuals opinions and rough measurements.

The search function should help you.

Try words like sensors and detection.

You can usually tell if you've been spotted, the merchants will start zig zagging. Later in the war you'll hear gun fire rattling off your conning tower. Running decks awash helps reduce detection rates on a dark night you can often get very close indeed.
