I just sunk a Fuso Battleship and a destroyer in shallow waters. For some reason, these particular ships did not show up as destroyed. Even though the destroyer broke into to pieces and complete sunk beneath the water. The Fuso fell over on it's side and only the very top edit is sticking above the water. I'd like to get credit for this during my mission as the Fuso is worth a lot of tonnage. Does anyone know what is going on? I'm running version 1.5.

I assume you didn't get a ship sunk message. In shallow water it's hard sometimes to get a sunk message. They ofter stick out of the water. I've found you basically gotta blow the crap out of them....Keep at it. If you can give it more time. Even merchants can do this.
I think it's because they either register sunk if they go below the water far enough or have enough damage zone points that they are blown up or totally flooded, but I would send a few more torps their way.. |

I destroyed a Fuso on my second ever SH4 mission, in shallow waters on a recon mission at Yokohama harbor. It was too good an opportunity to pass up! I used four torps, aimed at equidistant points along the hull. Two at each end of the superstructure and another two towards each end of the ship. I'd read up long ago about Gunther Prien's U-47 attack on the Royal Oak battleship at Scapa Flow, so I knew roughly how many torpedoes would be needed. I was ready to do another pass if necessary but the four shots did the job. I guess I must have caused sufficient damage to count it as destroyed. It rolled right over but couldn't sink too far due to the shallow waters. I'd say just keep shooting until you get the confirmation for the kill. If you run out of fish and it's safe to do so, surface and use the deck gun. Gotta be worth it for the 34k tonnes!

I finally got that sucker too (and the destroyer docked beside him) in Yokahama... the trick is, you have to get him to go down relatively quickly. Just because a boat sinks, doesn't mean you get the credit for it. If you've crippled a ship and they sink long afterward, you don't usually get the kill. I guess that's the way it was in the war, too. Many sub commanders knew they'd crippled a ship, but couldn't verify a sinking...

This pops up from time to time.
It used to be you had to actually witness the sinking (through periscope or while surfaced) to get any credit ![]() If you use the external cam you will see that the ship is actually resting on the bottom. I dont know how the game calculates how you get credit for a sinking but occassionally you get jipped. Ive been denied credit for ships in much much deeper water. Ive also gotten credit for ships that I never even attacked ![]()

Agree with Steamwake. Every so often, about 1 out of 15 -20 ships sunk, the game doesn't credit me with it. I have had this happen in all conditions and in all waters. I have never noticed a pattern. Occasionally I won't get crew notification of sinking and there will be no sunk icon on the map but when I open the Captain's log it is noted there, so in that case I did get the credit.

many people dont realise ships will repair damage while you wait so it can cost you more torps to wait for it to sink. if it sinks with 3 torps but you wait between shots to guage the results then it could need 4 or 5 to sink her because they repair as you wait. their repairs arent like ours where things get fixed but they do stop the flooding and such so its always best not to try and stretch your torpedos too far by waiting on results. |
