Default Rules of the road

Collison avoidance is certainly not the best part of DW. Here's the example.

Exerpts from Ship's Deck Log of USS Nebraska, SSBN 739, Aug. 21, 2009.

2345 Moored in Naval Submarine Base Kayla Bay, Hope Island, Southern Pacific, STBD side to pier #B-1A, bow in, with 6 standard mooring lines trippled. Receiving electricity, compressed air, fresh water and telephone from dock. Material condition X-ray set througout the ship. Other ships present are MS Gramola and sailing ship Wavelenght. CO and XO are ashore.

1000 Underway for area W-5, Kayla Bay Complex. Maneuvering to clear from berth.

And then it start's:

1122 CSE 290T; SPEED 12; DEPTH 36. Sighted Merchant, V-1, bearing 327R/256T, merged with M-1.

1124 M-1 bearing 256T, range 16 000 yards, course 039, speed 9 knt. This is crossing situation and M-1 is Give-Way Vessel.

1141 M-1, bearing 326R, is on collison course with submarine.

1146 M-1 bearing 325R.

1153 Collided with M-1.

And that was it. Lost Nebraska. Propably in real life a skipper of the SSBN would have made evasive turn at 1141 but sure I needed to give a try...
