Hi folks,
its been a while but with all this excitement surrounding the recently announced Sh5 i thought it time to re-install Sh4 (and yes I know i sinned by removing it) and buy u-boat missions (which i couldnt play previously due to a particularly hectic lifestyle). my question is, in SH3 I would plot a course to intercept by asking the watch range and bearing to target, I would do this over a period of time and plot a course to intercept accordingly. I have not noticed this function in SH4, does the ability to ask the watch this information make a return in the u-boat missions add on? any help would be greatly appreciated Dan

To the best of my knowledge, you cannot ask a crewmember to give you target course and range. However, with two accurate (underline, italicize and bold that!) stadimeter settings, you can push the asterisk button next to the send speed button and the crew will give you course and speed based on your measurements.
Clue: if they say course xº, speed 50 knots, it's probably time to take another couple of observations. The more accurate the observations and the longer their time separation is the better your results will be.

ah right ill have a look. is that the only way you can plot a course to intercept in SH4?

Of course not! You can always do the time consuming trial and terror method of finding a parallel course and using that, plus his bearing to establish where he's going and then plot your intercept. Real boats did that a lot.

My favorite method is to have target speed set to 0 and PK on while taking stadimeter bearing-ranges. The TDC nicely converts relative bearing into true bearing (my old methods was using the hydrophone scale) and you just drag off on the navigation map that true bearing and range and make a mark at the end of the line.

ok i just decided to take the bearing from the UZO and get the distance from sonar (not ideal if i bump into escorts)> i then mark the map and do it every few mins for a bit until I have an accurate course. i then sank the bugger!
