Default One for the Germans - TV Series

Back in the mid 80's on British childrens TV they showed a series about a boy who bet he could be the richest boy in the world and then was kidnapped by some sinister organisation that kept him in his life of luxury.

What was the series? I'm sure it was German as it was dubbed into English and the credits were German names.

That's the very reason why, I'd want to be the 3rd or 4th richest kid.

oh oh, I remember that!
didn't it have a really crappy progressive rock soundtrack, and seemed to end on a volcanic island when he was handed back to his parents?

Thomen has it right - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Tim_Tyler

Tim Thaler is a teen novel series by James Krüss here in Germany. The TV series is based on one of the books.
