I have this bug only when I enable both graphic options: volumetric fog and environmental effects. Uncheck either of them and the transparency effect diminishes; uncheck both and it goes away (as it should be). I have NVidia 8800 GT graphic card, so it might be a bug related to NV drivers, I guess.

I have the same card as the OP, and the same problem. Haven't tried unchecking those options but would like to retain the environment effects.

This is unfortunately something the dev's couldn't patch. It occurs with environmental effects on with both nvidia and ATI cards. But at least it doesn't hurt the gameplay at all.

I live with it, it's only bad when fog is present.
