OK I am just ranting so bear with me. I decide to take a Tambor class boat out of the Asiatic fleet in 1941. Great first patrol, bagged one Kongo and an escort carrier pulling the vulgar 69 attack on the task force...) Well my next mission is an Intel, I complete it and then guess what? I get another one in the shallow waters of Indonesia. I barley complete that one with the boat intact and then I get to patrol the shallow waters of the Jawa sea. Why would these numbskulls put a boat on suicide missions when the first patrol was awesome up neaer the Phillipines? Solution....I transferred to Pearl....

Wait, wait, wait... you said that you used a Tambor-class with Asiatic Fleet in 1941? There are only a S-18, a Porpoise-class, a Salmon-class, and a Sargo-class. I don't see Tambor on the list. I think you misunderstood the sub class or did you modify it yourself?!

I've done some good work in the Java sea. Took out a whole convoy of 6 ships and a pair of Destroyers for good measure early in my current carreir (currently my captain is in Aug 44). High speed surface attacks are the key here. Also if you incounter a very well defended conovy don't attack right away, shadow it until it gets to deeper waters of the South China Sea or Celebs Sea and make a dived attacked.

I have not performed some mission before, but it seems like I wind up with them again very soon. I have not been too successful with surface attacks I seem to get picked up by radar most of the time. Eh, I admit it I have a phobia of shallow water...

You must be playing the stock v1.5 - in RFB you can pound them senseless and they still float forever. They may burn a little but the deck gun just doesn't complete the kill. Figure TMO is the same... that one is next for me.

In the shallows I parallel the enemy's course infront of the convoy until it gets very dark (like after moonset). I pick a postition between two escorts and move in at flank and take a shot at the nearest merchant at the first opertunity then dash away before my fish hit. If I'm forced to dive I immedately change course leaving a decoy in my wake and try to get on to a course taking me away from the convoy. If the DDs are greater than 6,000 yrds I'll run for it up top unless they are scanning with searchlights. After I have dusted off the DDs I'll try go back to the attack area and look for any disabled ships or straglers.
