that is the #2 turret casing of the sunken USS Arizona protruding from the sea.
(see this google image of the memorial which is built above the wreckage) ![]() sadly, 1,102 of her crew are either, missing, buried or... still aboard.

![]() Indeed she does... i believe the figure is now estimated at around a quart or two per day. because it is assumed she still has some 2,000 tons of bunker oil aboard... it is estimated that she will continue to leak her "tears" for another 65 years or longer (or until a corrosion of the hull results in a catastrophic release)

I'm sure this is just a case of honor but I assume that no other vessel has been named Arizona because of what happened to the Arizona during the attack on Pearl?
Thats definitely something I want to do, despite being an Aussie. I want to visit Pearl and pay my respects to the men and women of the US armed forces. I think we (As Aussies) owe them for fighting the Japanese back from so close to our homeland. |
