Default Ouch!

Man this game can be unforgiving. I'm creeping up on an unknown English ship near Port Said, scope up, dead slow, waiting for the detection meter to start going red when it just instantly goes red. No quarter or half red as usual. The ship looks like a merchant so I surface for a gun attack as it turns away. Bam, one shell hits, so I start to dive, bam second shell kills. I know I enjoy excellent gunnery but a two shell kill at night at 3km? Oh well, good thing you can at least start the patrol over.

Seems like you ran into a q-ship.
These uboat traps have been effective killing units in WW1 for some times, indeed.

Oh yeah I'm sure it was, I've learned the AI marksmanship is faultless and unknown types are Q-ships or at least armed. Still I'm determined to run a full war career before putting this game aside, even though the 1916 North Sea missions are mostly repeats through the Channel minefield.
