Default Hunting Simulations

Anyone play these???

Kind of a niche market (but so are sub sims). I'm playing Deer Hunter Tournament 2009 at the moment. It's actually better than I thought it would be. It's the only game of the genre I've tried so far; just wondering if others are any better/worse. One nice thing about DHT is they let you compete in tournaments online which adds a little competition to the mix.

I remember back when I worked at Staples. Deer Hunter came out and we couldn't keep it on the shelves. It was definitely our number one selling game and it even beat out Half Life in sales (BIGTIME). Then I folded and decided to give it a try and discovered that it was the most simple, random, bore fest I had ever played and I returned it to the store.

I just stalked a monster 10pt for like an hour before finally taking him at 90yds with a bolt action 30-06. My biggest trophy so far . Almost had a bow-distance shot at him at one point but I think he caught my scent and darted off.

Filled a tag for a moose with two arrows on that hunt too...

Not sure what the old Deer Hunter was like, but the 2009 version has deer that vary in size, color, and antlers. Every animal in my trophy case is distinctly different.

I do wish there were a few fine tuning adjustments for the scopes and bow sights though. I'd prefer to sight in the weapon myself at the range.

You may want to look into this one. I saw a bit of it on a friends PC when it was in beta and it looked really good.

The concept is that it is a free to play game, but you only get to hunt Mule Deer. If you buy a "Hunting License", which is of course just a game subscription available in different packages (3mo, 6mo etc) you are allowed to hunt Whitetail Deer, Turkey, Roosevelt Elk and "future additions".

It has online ranking etc but beyond that I am not sure.

Come join The Hunter, member already. Could use someone on my friends list.

Check out the link from Highbury, check back here if you have questions, I'm up to speed on the fine details.
