Default Little help? Campaign Borked

How do I keep from buggering up my campaign?

The simple answer I guess is to not dick around with addons after I've started one I guess, but there's no fun in that.

I started my American campaign from Pearl on Dec 8, 1941 with the following installed in the order they are listed using the Generic Mod Enabler 2.2.0.120:

RFB 1.52
RFB Alternative Nomographs
RSRDC_RFBV15_420
RSRDC_V420_Patch2A
Real Environment Mod
Real Environment Mod Retextured Warships
Lite Fog
BBC World

I know based on reading the forums here that you should only change/addon stuff while you're in port. So I finished my first patrol and got back to Pearl. I then added something... can't quite remember what, but I think it was:

Hirez Dark Hud Dials and Werner's Optics: called Optics2 over stock.

I started my next patrol and noticed that whenever I saved and reloaded the patrol it would be night time no matter what time I saved it at. It's a strange issue to say the least. I could be sitting outside Pearl with the clock at 1pm, then save and reload and the clock will still say 1pm but it'll be night out lol.

I guess I need to know what specific files (if any) should not be buggered with while in mid-campaign??

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance all.

Regards,

EDIT: I'm running SH4 1.5 UBM and I don't mind restarting a campaign, I just don't wanna KEEP having to restart my campaign.

Uninstall one mod at a time and start whit the latest install and go back and se if any of them trigger it.

Thats the best advice i can give you. But its an real odd behavoiur you have there. Never heard of it before.
Or move your sub away so you are not so close to port when you save. Like stright out in the middle of nowhere and save and se if that helps.

Or you could allways se it as a roleplaying element that you suffer from a solar eclipse

Good advice Vikinger, Yeah it was a weird glitch.

I first noticed it way out and well into my second patrol as that's when I made my first save. I then reloaded the 2nd patrol from Pearl and it did the same thing after saving it just outside the base and reloading from there. So the distance from base thing doesn't seem to matter.

I restarted my campaign and just finished my 1st patrol, but haven't started my 2nd patrol yet. I assume everthing is okay regarding that particular glitch, but I have to test it.

I did notice during my first patrol (after I had put in the Hirez Hud dials) my RFB Alternative Nomenclatures got overwritten so they didn't appear on the plot screen anymore. That should be easy to fix. I also noticed that Werner's Periscope Optics over wrote the camera.dat so the camera doesn't work like it did with RFB/RSRDC. I also think the the Lite Fog "fix" made most of my patrol slightly foggy for the whole two months I was out as it overwrote the scene.dat file. I wonder if that's normal?

Anyhoo, I obviously need to tweak some things before heading out on my 2nd patrol (I hate that Umark so I have to get rid of it), but I'm just trying to avoid "fixing" stuff and getting weird glitches like the one I described lol.

It's all rather odd, but thanks for the reply.

Cheers

Hi.

That lite fog fix change just the distance of the fog if you have fog on your patrol. Beside that nothing els is changed in the file that is the same file as they use in Latest enviroment mod.

Maybe you was just "unlucky" to have light fog for the most of the patrol.

If you like i can send you a new file that has stock values for the fog distance.

Just send me a PM whit your email adress and il send it over to you.

That Umark will you get from the enviroment mod when you install it.

Before you install the mod you can delete the file from the folder.
The path is: #1 Real Environment Mod Install/Data/Misc and look up the file Umark.dds and just delete it.

As a general rule, only add mods, any mod, when you are in port. If you add major mods or a lot of mods at once be ready to start a new campaign. You won't know until you try to continue. Sometimes you get away with it, sometimes you don't.

Alls well Vik,

I'm clueless as to how the game generates weather. I just thought that maybe since I saw so much lite fog during my 8 week first patrol the lite fog fix had something to do with it.

In the middle of my second patrol now. ("solar eclipse" glitch is gone) so resarting the campaign did the trick and the weather seems random enough that it was obviously just a silly assumption on my part re: the lite fog fix. You know what they say about assumptions.

Got the nomenclatures back from RFB1.52. The Hirez HUD Dials had nothing to do with them disappearing as I thought (another assumption gone wrong lol). Seems the night "solar eclipse" glitch was probably just me screwing around too much with the mod enabler.

All other issues like the missing nomencaltures and different camera behaviour were due entirely to Werner's Optics 2 Over Stock. Or more specifically his Cameras.dat and Menu_1024_768.ini.

Don't get me wrong, there's no problems with his files if your using the mods I'm using listed above. It's just I prefer the camera movement that comes with RFB1.52 and RFB's menu_1024_768.ini which allows me to use the nomencaltures.

So I'm using his Optics 2 over stock, but without his cameras.dat. And I found the lines from his menu_1024_768.ini for his cool persiscope settings in another thread so I just put 'em in the RFB 1.52 menu_1024_768.ini.

I thought this might cause issues with screwed up ranges on the stadimeter or something worse, but so far all everything seems accurate.

Cheers
