Default What type of SH3 player are you?

Hi,

Having read quite a few threads now, its obvious there is quite a diverse range of approachs that people use when playing SH3. I've formed the impression that many people here are quite serious (in a good way of course) about the realism factor of the game.

In order to quantify my impression, I thought I might start a poll to test the accuracy, or inaccuracy, of my impression. I also realise that with the many options and tweaks available to the game (some via 3rd party MODS like SH3 Commander), it's not possible to cater for every single type of setup/realism setting. So, I've made some very broad categories that I hope might suffice (please chosse the once closest to your indvidual approach to the game).

What realism setting do you use?
1. Extreme Hardcore : 100% realism + D.I.D
2. Hardcore : 75% - 100% realism
3. Macho Man : 50% - 75% realism
4. Tough Guy : 25% to 50% realism
5. Super Soft : 0% to 25% realism

I'll go first ,and vote 5.

Thanks,
Dud

Realism 85% because I turn on external view and scope stabilization (historically correct) + DID + Manual Navigation.

Guess that makes me an extreme harcore player.

Cheers,

#2 + DiD. I'm too lazy not to use the Weapons Officer. I'm finally weening myself of the external views, but there I am.

I really don't want to go off topic, but you started it!

How were the scopes stabilized?

Type 2, I only get to play sporadically so I have to make the best of it.

Super hard core. If I die in the game, I will go drown myself in the bath tub

84% + D.I.D. I use the god's eye (which im thinking of turning off)
and weapons officer assistance. I wont say no if you tell me to do manual on a shot and i will probably find my target if its less than 5000km but i believe that 100% is too much for one man.

:rotfl: @ Neal

Compared to that I'm soft as baby cheeks

Okay seriously I play at 85%. Weapon officer assistance on to identify targets, scope stabilization on for OLC gui and external view for eye candy. I guess I play D.I.D because I just started a new career after I was sank. I just haven't thought about it before.
And I use manual navigation and I'm going out there to do my job, but most of all I'm trying to bring my crew back home.

I have my own recognition manual, I occasionally plot attacks on paper using pencil and compass and strait edge, I time ships by stop watch, and even have one notch on my belt for a 1x time compression patrol of about 2 weeks duration.

next step, decorating my room with encased red lights!

100% realism, but don't play DiD. I don't want to spend several evenings just to lose my life. After all, I'n also expending my real life! It's only a game...

#2, DiD. I keep the external camera mainly for screenshots. Never had much use for auto targeting - it is a lot of fun to "eyeball" my torps.

I love old games like "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe", where there's no way to resurrect your guy (without modding tools). I still remember getting my P-47 ace killed on his second-to-last mission when I was 11 years old. :rotfl:

I am so hardcore that when i go on patrol i turn my monitor OFF...

[serously realism is around 80+ %, sometimes manual targetting On/ sometimes not. I mean no need to have a stroke over the game. ]

I think the goal of gaming is entertainment, and the external views add to that, even though not being true to life, so I include external views. Seeing your torpedo race towards the target, not knowing if it will hit is a joy the real uboat guys didn't have. Why rob yourself of that joy if the point of gaming is entertainment? Increased realism doesn't always translate into increased enjoyment. Sometimes in the quest for realism, we lose the plot.

BTW, what is DID?
