Default SOS - Verstunken Vista won't let me run SH3

If this has already been addressed, forgive me for not going back enough screens to see the solution.

I have 64-bit Vista, and every time I try to run SH3 (with or without the latest patch from ubi.com), I get the following message:

"This application can be launched with a release version of Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2.1/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003 only."

I get no further. I also tried running it with its compatibility set to XP Service Pack 2. No dice.

Is there a fix that'll let me defend the Fatherland? Thanks for any assistance.

I don't think that's the answer. The first step says to run SH3 once. As I said, I CAN'T run it - with OR without the patch, it won't run at all. The message I get says I need an OS other than Vista, apparently. SH4 runs just fine, though, patched or plain. Are they substantially different?

Windows Vista 64-bit is New to Gaming,
Future Games will be Played on this Platform,
I Use it, Its Great,
If your SH3 Disc is Old,
Like it may have a Protection?Starforce?
That is the Error you Will Keep Getting,
Sadly there is No Fix for this,
Best To Buy The Unprotected Version,
Patched to 1.4,
Very Cheap Too,
Purchase it Here on Subsim,
Happy Hunting

Have SH3 installed and have gotten rid of starforce and patched to 1.4 but when i loading up the game as soon as the red bar becomes full it just crashes to desktop. It said once that the computer does not recognize the 3d engine.

My OS is vista ulimate 64bit.

Any ideas guys.

If you installed from the no-starforce and patched to 1.4b disk, and installed it in a folder outside of the program and program (86) folders, and don't have ffshow on your computer, I don't have the foggiest idea of what is wrong.

How can I tell if it's unprotected? I tried looking for it here, and ended up at Amazon.com, and I couldn't find anything in the descriptions that said that that copy of the game was unprotected.

I am having the same problem. How many other people has this happened too. I dont mind buying another game (sh-3) as long as I know the starforece free one will work on vista 64. Do people buy the game as a download or the dvd starforce free one.

Try these guys: http://yhst-12000246778232.stores.yahoo.net/. I bought a "no Starforce" & pre-patched to 1.4 copy of SH3 from them last year. Just tell them that this what you want in the comments sections if you place an order there. Unfortunately I can't say for sure that this will work for you as I have Vista 32-bit.

Two steps:
1) Use starforce removal tool(just in case. You shouldn't have SF since the game doesn't run)
http://www.glop.org/starforce/remove.php

and

2) Crack SH3 with no-cd crack.
Can't link the things you need in part 2, but Google will find them.
