Default Buying some new parts

I can play any game at 1024x768, with the highets details, without getting less than 40fps. I never use AA, because i think its just a waste of performance for a very small gain of image quality. But i have to recognize 1024x768 is a low resolution for today's standards, Crysis still resists to work smoothly on a high resolution, and 3Dmark 06 keeps kicking my ass, not to mention 3Dmark vantage...
This is what i have:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+, 2,5 GhZ per core. I can OC it to get 2,7 GhZ per core, but OC is not a very healthy practice...
Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 8600GT, 512MB, PCIe 16x
MoBo: ASUS M2A-VM. It only has one PCIe slot. I'm not interested in SLI, but without PCIe 2.0 i can't use the newest cards' full potential.
Memory: 4GB DDR2-667, quite slow...

I don't want a ultra-fast allmighty rig with quad-SLI, just a PC where i can play anything at a decent resolution with full details without having to worry about performance drops. I think changing my current card for a 9800GT should be enough. What do you recommend?

Should be in the PC forum - but accidents happen so no sweat.

You didn't discuss price - so if your set on going Nvidia look at the 9800GX2 - its a single slot card that has dual 9800's with 1G onboard. Your looking at less than $300 for this.

If your willing to look at ATI cards, then you want something in the 4800 range.

This will help you have some room to grow into as well.

4870 w/ 1GB is less than $200 these days!

Anyway, you don't want to play Crysis with AA enabled. You can't have the plant smoothing and AA enabled at the same time. So with AA enabled in Crysis, all those close up plants you are crawling through end up looking like crap, so the whole game ends up looking like crap.

For the same money a 4870 1GB will eat that thing for lunch.
