I see that IE8 is RC (release candidate) now. Is this still considered a beta, or is it the final version? I want to use IE8, but I do not wish to participate in any experiments or serve as a beta-tester.

Sometimes they can have several RC's, its not considered beta but they are still fixing bugs for final release.

Get opera instead, it is far superior.

Well, Firefox is the overall best, but you might like Chrome too. Opera takes a little longer to load, and IE is the longest. At least on Vista or XP.

Don't use Chrome. It is spyware 100%. German federal police has massively warned of using it. No other software the federal police has ever warned of so urgently.
Concerning loading times: I click on a link, and 1- 2 seconds later the page is up in IE7. What else could you want? 0.3674 seconds reaction time? Security wise, use IE7 in closed and tightly set security mode and use your brain before clicking any link and downloading every thing you stumble over. Then you are doing well with IE. It is much better than it's reputation. Firefox 3 crammed much more garbage into my temporary folders, for example, and it also proved to be a burden for the system, keeping the HD running for long time every couple of minutes, and taking much more CPU load than IE. Firefox 1 and 2 even accepted more items being downloaded onto my HD that later triggered security alarms when using active scanners, than IE. Some were false, some were real. With IE set to "high internet security", I do not have that problem. This is not to say Firefox is bad. Plenty of people obviously like it. I just say that if you do not act irresponsibly, IE is much better than it'S reputation, and easier to handle by your system. I think it is too much "religion" in this debate Firefox versus IE: MS always is the devil, Mozilla always is the savior. Point of all this is: do not use Chrome. Security- and privacy-wise it is the by far worst option you can take.
