Or build a raft out of underwear and raincoats. Out of fuel means dead in the water, fuel management is part of the challenge.
![]() No tows, no calling in refuels. Sorry.

That is one realism item I always turn off.
To me there is simply no fun running on 2/3 speed across the pacific. Yawn. I am getting pretty close to my 100% realism but I don't think I will ever get there due to my fuel bias. I remember on career, I forgot to deselect realistic fuel. I left Pearl at my usual flank speed. Got half way to Midway and got the "fuel warning" ![]() Oops, ole "lead foot" here barely got to midway on fumes. ![]()

Well, what you should do depends on if you are running the game vanilla-style or if you have any mods.
With TMO, I think 3/3 ahead is the most fuelefficient speed but with vanilla, 1/3 ahead is the most fuelefficient speed. I think you can check how far you can go at a certain speed by pressing "Shift+G". Good luck ![]() |

If you have TMO, not sure about other mods, you have icons where you can check your fuel range. There are about 3 icons. Just draw a line to your port, then hit the icon that says something "range at this speed." You can adjust speed, but 10knts is usually the best in all cases, run slower or faster and recalculate and you can see how much you lose. Icons also give you end range and time.
Ducimas said this works correctly on ships that are damaged. Also, check to see if you have damage. Many times the engines will run and keep charging. If your batterys are damaged, the engines will keep charging them, even though they won't ever stop charging. Cut the battery charge button off after you get it charged. I"ve also found you can travel another few hundred miles even when fuel is out. Worse, if you run out and only a few miles out, submerged you can go 1kt long after battery runs out...make take a long real time. |

You can refuel in a friendly base that's not your home base. In my current campaign I'm based out of Perth, but I stop pretty frequently in Darwin to top up my fuel tanks and ammo supplies.

my home port is Pearl and they are always sending me to honshu island Japan, and the distance is about 6500 or 7000km after Mid Way (don't know the exact distance) so it's pretty far and the fuel supply is not enough to reach at that patrol area even in 1/3 speed
![]() ![]() can you give me advices how can i go without losing a month just for traveling in my patrols P.S : using 1.3 patch and no mods my sub is a Gar type

A few pointers: Stay on the surface as much as possible. Diving and recharging batteries uses a lot more fuel than just staying on the surface. Transit at 9.5~10 knots. That is the most efficient speed for most boats. Get patch 1.4 at least. 1.5 is the U-Boat Missions that cost around 10 bucks. I never play U-Boats but the patch and improvements are worth the money.

I don't recall having that problem even before the patch...but patch you must.
As I recall, you usually have about 3/4 tank when you reach Honshu. Run at 10kts. If you run at low speed, you'll get terrible milage. After all, these subs weren't made in Japan. |
