Questions on Attack Map and on Deck Gun

Two questions:
- I've noticed that the attack maps shown in most of the tutorial videos have grids on them, especially angle and distance (circular) grids around the sub. My attack map doesn't have any of these features. Is there an option to turn them on?
- In one of my home port stops I picked up some guys for the damage control team. However, the allocation spaces for the deck gun crew disappeared. So when I order to "man the deck gun" there are no crew members allocated... Could this be caused by having a permanent damage control crew?
Thanks for the help.

Hi Robedslv,

I had a problem like that before but not exactly what you describe. I ended patrol in a Sargo and attempted to put a foward 4 inch gun in the one gun slot provided.

It took the gun even though the Sargo at the time I was refiting only alowed for an after gun. I then went to see if I could add some crew and found my deck gun crew had been moved and there were no more deck gun slots. Soo I went back to the equipment screen and replaced it with a stern gun and that restored my deck gun crew slots.

Of course the two might not be related but you might want to give it a try.

Some boats only will let u position the gun aft of the conn.

1: that circular tool around the boat on those videos are because of mods. Try one of the mod-compilations to bring them in, among other things.

2: see bellow. I never experienced this.

Deck gun problem well known. You can't change the position of your deck gun from fore to aft or vice versa.

Well, you can if you "buy" a stern/bow mounted, right?

From my perspective yes as long as you catch in port.

Hmuda: Would you happen to know which mod? There are too many, and I don't think I should be trying a whole bunch of them just to get the attack map thingie...

Hey Robedslv,

I'm just trying out a couple of these "supermods" myself, and if you're still wondering, Trigger Maru Overhauled includes the modification that gives you the circular bearing tool on the attack map. It actually includes a lot of nifty little bearing tools or conversion charts and stuff like that, and I don't even know how to use like half of it!

Anyway, I don't know about Real Fleet Boat and I'm guessing it might have that circle bearing too as well, but if you want to be sure then I'd get Trigger Maru Overhauled. Also, --you might know this-- but make sure that the version of TMO that you get "matches" the version of SHIV you have. If you only have the original game patched to 1.4, only get the 1.4 TMO, and if you have the 1.5 version from the U-boat Missions expansion, then just get the most recent Trigger Maru, which I believe is around 1.6. You can find downloads and info on these mods and about a billion others in the mod section here too!

As far as that deck gun thing goes, that is really weird, and I've never come across it. That kinda bug would *bug* the hell out of me.....seriously.

From what people are saying it might be a more common bug, but there are a LOT of mods that really polish up the game even more and eliminate lots of bugs, and expand on the game too. You could take a shot at it and download one of the supermods and there might be a fix included, who knows!

Good luck though with everything! Ask again if you have any other questions, the people here are some of the best you'll ever find on this messed up thing we call the Internet!

***Quick little edit, to Robedslv --- Up there I recommended a big mod-pack to you, and it just occurred to me that you might just want a smaller mod that ONLY includes the bearing tool and NOT all the other changes of TMO, and if so then I can't help you as much. I will say that you should still look around in the mod section of the forums, maybe check the "Mods" tab from the Subsim homepage where there are a few featured, smaller mods, or just give a supermod a go and see if you like it! You could also post a thread in the mod section here, where I'm sure someone could help you out further, if you need it. Good luck again!

This is one range-bearing overlay:

I think RR did an update for it ... but I can't find the link.
