Default Windows 7 Beta

From what ive read this OS will be very fast with many improvements over Vista.

Quote:
This should bring joy to many tech / nerds around the world, Microsoft has just announced that Windows 7 beta will be released on a larger scale to its MSDN users in just a few days. This should come as a good Xmas present for investors and also computer enthusiasts . Windows 7 beta is expected to be a full “Beta” still not 100% stable but it will contain all features that have been spoken about over the last few months. Current versions of windows 7 floating around are handicapped versions at best and have a lot of features missing.
Anyway head over to Microsoft and sign up as a MSDN user for your chance to Beta Test Windows 7. Use this link to Sign up for the Microsoft MSDN program here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-au/default.aspx
No guarantees you will be selected but MS are looking for a broad range of people to test Windows 7. The more people who test the windows 7 beta the better as we really don’t want a repeat of Windows Vista. Good luck
Windows 7 display drivers already..
Quote:
This is great news, Microsoft has set out sample display drivers to all the main video card manafactures. This is basicly giving all the main players plenty of time to get this right, Hardware vendors have a good 9 months to fine tune Windows 7 graphics drivers.
As you would be aware Windows Vista when released had all kinds of driver / support issues and these problems continued on for quite a long time, even to this day some hardware is still causing headaches. This is a smart move by Microsoft and should build some confidence amongst MS operating systems users & fans.
We have been told that Microsoft will also work closer to other hardware vendors this time around to ensure all current hardware & upcoming hardware is windows 7 compatible. Windows 7 should really be a huge improvement over windows vista.

This MAY restore my confidence in Microsoft.

While Vista is a requirement for gaming these days. It still sucks. Hopefully there will be a Windows 7 minimum process version.

Vista isnt really bad at all - its actually very good in a number of ways if you have the right version and config it properly.

I hope to get to try W7 on some test machines at work soon - if IT will let loose of the MSDN kit long enough for me to install it on a box for testing. Thankfully, thats part of my role - making sure the sftw we make actually works, so I have a good reason to do it.

The beta is out! And to rave reviews!

Some are saying they think this is good enough to be the actual OS!

Now this is the difficult part. They will be tempted left and right to fill it with bloatware. Tho so far they are steadfast about getting out a version that just works. If they can do that.. I think they will regain their position.

Well just as expected it has "Appeared" on the trackers.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/29/w...nternet-world/

BTW It is wrong to install it (It was meant for MSDN subscribers I believe) However if you do be careful as there are reports of fake versions full of viruses and spyware out there.

So far the consensus is that it is of high quality and runs extremely fast! However. Again this is when things can go REALLY bad. MS is going to be REALLY tempted to fill it with bloatware at this point.

Right now it is faster than XP
When it arrives it will likely be the same speed as XP
If they give in it will be as slow as Vista.
