Default [WIP] Retirement

Hey guys...

Bad news for some, good news for the vast majority ( ), Thomsen's modding days are ending.

The year is ending and my journey is getting near. For those who don't know, I'll hit the road with a backpack (bag?) and get out there in the world. I've left my job (I work with IT, support and development), and the moment couldn't be more perfect. All the money I had I left in a fund for investment, so the money will be left behind, growing, while I'll hit the road penniless for 3 years. If one day I really need that money, I'll have it, but the main plan is to live penniless for the much time I can. I think the biggest treasure is life is knowledge and wisdom, and I think money is just a mean to and end, otherwise most people. I'm very sick of society and all I want in my life right now is to get out there, live the life to the full. Like Kpt Lehnman's signature.

I live in Curitiba, Brazil. The plan is to go south, out of Brazil, Uruguai, Argentina, Chile, and then take a merchant ship to the west coast of Canada, and travel east to Halifax, on foot. That will take about one or two years. Then I plan to go to Europe, visit a friend in Netherland. The travel is the journey, and not the destination, so I'm not much concearned where the hell I'm gonna end up. Might pay you guys a visit in the next subsim meeting, if I'm around. Sure would be great. To be very honest, I think one of the things I'll miss the most, beside my friends, is this lovely community. Every day when I get home, the first thing I do is to turn on my computer and check this forum for news and other stuff. It's just amazing, I love this place and after one year, ended up with some good friends. Plus I do love modding, perhaps more than gaming, so it has been an amazing experience, and I feel that every minute I spent in this place was not wasted.

I'm not sure when I'll go yet... I have a little money outside that invested one, which I don't plan to touch. In the last days I'll sell this computer, and with the money buy a backpack, a tent, a sleeping sack, a knife, and some survival equipment. When the moment comes and I sell this machine, I'll post my last post. Who knows if I'm gonna die out there, so I'll wish farewell for everybody here.

I don't plan to be near people, cities, civilizations... I want to be alone, find myself, spiritual revolution or something like that. I'm not afraid of dying. I'm afraid of not living. And living in this society is sh!t, each day worst. In 50 years, this whole place will be hell (cientifically proof), so I rather be way north near alaska, or dead.

For all my mods.... I don't plan to be modding anymore. Anybody, feel free to continue my work, change it, take credit for, ruin it or make it better. I really don't care. I wish all of you the best. I really with I was around to see GWX 4, or SH5, but there are more important things in life than gaming.

Maybe if I get around a computer anywhere (we never know) I can post something about my adventures here, for those interested to know.

All I want of technology with me is music. I just can't live without music. I'm taking with me a 80gb mp4, which contains all my music... enough for 2 months of 24 hours/day listening without repeating. To fuel that, I'm planning to buy a solar panel recharger... I saw one in the internet for $150 if I'm not mistaken... does anybody of you guys know anything about that kind of technology and the price for it? Any info would be appreciated.

For moderators, I didn't know where to post this, and since I spent 99% of my time in this forum in the sh3 mods workshop, I would like it to end here. Well free to move it, if it's necessary. I'm not sure how things work about profiles, if they are deleted with time, but I would like to keep this one. Who knows, I might be back someday, 3 years from now, modding something for sh5.

So, maybe I'll go in next week, or might stay one more month... depends on the money.

In any case, I thank you all for the chatter, the laughing, the enjoyance, the fights... it was a great season and I won't forget this ever.

Sad to see you depart, happy you will traveling and TRY to interact with people along the way like Jack Kerouac (sp) but in my own travels I would suggest a bicycle some panniers and such. One lighter on your back and far more enjoyable.

Heh and here's me thinking this was some sort of career mod akin to SH3 Commander's retirement feature.

Good luck PT. It's a big step to take. Hang tough buddy.

You might have reached the crossroads friendo
For sure it smells and looks like **** every single day that goes through in this bloody failure for men to live together, but the main problem with your plan my friend, in my own opinion of course, is that your human nature as my own human nature is not meant to make you or me able to stand alone in the Wild, unless you meet some people somewhere and start all over again a new life.
As human beings, we are all doomed to live together though we do not share much and regarding to Death, remember about mods, it comes when it comes
I have been travelling into Wild Africa for ten years now and since my first step on the Sacred Soil of Mankind birth, I have been convinced that one day, I will go and settle there so that my deeper dream comes true: enlist as a volunteer for Wildlife preservation and do my best to allow future generations to witness the true meaning of Life from the wild side (sounds like a Monty Python movie title ... :hmm: )

We pushed too it too far as they say but there should be one place in this bloody world where you might find out what you are looking for.
And for this, friendo, I wish you all the best.
Remember that your strength is your mind, your body will follow the way.

I have much respect for what you are about to do. Means you have been thinking about leaving for a long time and now it is time to pack up.

Take care, go forward and moreover, keep your eyes wide opened to enjoy every single second of your journey.

Good luck friendo
