Default Harbor raiding, subnets and other stupidities.

I'm sitting outside of Cadiz after a re-supply from the Thalia...and I'm bored :rotfl:
The battelship Nelson is parked in Gibraltar harbor...and I'm thinking...HMMmmm.

I know this will restart the "harbor raiding is crazy" replies but...

1. How do the deep draft ships get in and out, with a fairly shallow subnet in the way? Does it ever get "moved" (the subnet)?

2. Do the other ships (merchies) ever come out of these harbors? I've been advised to "wait outside for the merchants to leave"...does that ever really happen??

In RL the subnets would be moved by harbour units
In SH3 they stay in place

For 2 depends
GWX starts no ships from directly inside the ports as no real space to do so for convoys so they start close outside
WAC say theirs start inside the harbour but not noticed that on the campaign layers
Besides SH3 wont spawn RND units within 25km of the player so you could sit outside all war and never see one leave
Move over 30km outside the port and the units will spawn and move

Thanks Big! I'm hovering between keeping my "Campaign" alive...or a little nail biting exitement? I've found a minute way in to Gibraltar...on the east side of the subnet. Is it worth the risk? Probably not. Will I try it anyway? That remains to be seen. Decisions, decisions. (This is GWX 2.1, BTW).

Yup, real nets opened an closed. That's how the Japanese midget sub was trying to get into Pearl Harbor when attacked by the Ward: following the target tug Antares into the harbor while the net was open.

Of course having the net deep enough so ships could pass over it but the sub would have to surface might work.:hmm:

There is a Theortical way to get the nets to move.
Tar Jak actually came up with the idea.
But I've not had time to give it a try.
:hmm:

Actually, It's a bit complicated as to how to implement.
And to say anything without trying it?
Would be premature.

If TJ wants to comment.
Fine.
But I think it needs tested first.

But it is a BRILLENT idea!

I believe most 'nets can be crossed if your sub is surfaced...I'm not gonna try that at "The Rock"! :rotfl:

I may have found a small "nick"...the east end of the 'net doesn't go all the way to shore. However, the resupply at the Thalia did not allow me to choose type I or type II torpedoes...you get what you get, apparently. So, I'm loaded up with "obvious" type I's and contemplating an attack on a place I will have to wiggle into...and then get out of through the same tiny hole. I'm thinkin' not.
