Default Reporting contact

My deck watch almost always says just "ship spotted" and they dont say where and how far. Is that bug?

No thats what the map contacts are for.

The sonar man will give you bearing and relative range.

Default Nearest visual contact

Petr;
you don't mention if you have a mod or not or what version of the game. I'm running SHIV 1.4 with TMO 1.4 with RSRD and there is a 'button' for "Nearest visual contact". Clicking on this will give you a bearing and estimated range. I usually get "ship spotted" followed soon after by a bearing. Sometimes my crew can see a ship and I can't (either weather conditions or pure distance) so I'll use "nearest visual contact" to get more info. It works well.
Hope this helps.
Tomoose.

If you get those trained watch crews they can spot ships at incredible distances, over the horizon in fact

Doesn't that button give the range in feet not yards, been a long time since I
used it. Actually I had forgotten about it.

you're right, you get some rather big numbers, LOL, but converting to yards is relatively simple (either by calculator or using the map scale/nomograph).

Actually, using SH4 Speech I don't press the button, I simply say "Nearest visual contact" and I get a response, pretty cool.

I've got this too and additionaly several crew members are pointing in the opposite direction of the contact. It seems Bernard and his clan is on watch.

I can live with vampires and zombies on board - but this - bah. Maybe they are pointig in the right direction - just the other way around the globe. Who knows...

cheers
