Default Read the USS Drum's (SS-228) war patrol reports

It took a while, but I finally have all 13 of the USS Drum's (SS-228) war patrol reports from WWII online in HTML format:

http://www.drum228.org/patrols.html

Take a look over them, it's educational.

While you're there, browse over the entire Drum228.org website and learn about the past, present, and future of this historic museum submarine!

The USS Drum made a remarkable 13 war patrols in WWII and is the 8th highest in rank of most Japanese tonnage sunk by American submarines in WWII. She was also the FIRST Gato-class submarine commissioned.

Nice stuff...

It was interesting to read all the difficulties they had to over come. Seems like that gyro compass was giving them fits. The flllooded torpedoes, and the in ability to pick up sounds at close range 'due to debrie in the water'.

All very interesting stuff.

Good stuff! The Drum is only a few hours from me. We plan to ride over and tour it again soon.

well, reading this has given me much more of an understanding of submarine warfare. One thing I have always found annoying is, how difficult it is to get my sub to dive in heavy weather. It seems USS Drm had the same problem. Thanks for a great link......
